Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations Working together, the funeral home and memorial park have served the Catawba County community Catawba Memorial Park was established in 1948 by C.G. Rowe.

Fox as the first perpetual care cemetery in Catawba County, North Carolina. In 1978, William E. Rowe purchased the cemetery from Mr. Fox’s 3 daughters, Margie Furlong, Rachel Adams and Mildred Greer.

1978 - 1982

In 1978, the Garden Mausoleum opened as the first mausoleum in Catawba County to offer above-ground entombment and niches. In 1979, Brent Heffron purchased Catawba Memorial Park from Mr.

In 1982, the Garden Mausoleum was completed, making it the largest mausoleum in Western North Carolina at the time. Funeral Home Addition

JOE EDWARD DICKINSON

HICKORY – Joe Edward Dickinson, 94, of Hickory passed away on April 11, 2026.

Born on August 20, 1931, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Charles Edward Dickinson, Sr. and Mae Cook Dickinson.

Joe was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Maxine Ledford Dickinson, and siblings Betty Fisher, Charlie Dickinson and Danny Dickinson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Tony Dickinson and wife Gaye; grandchildren Emilie D. Kearns and husband David and Andy J. Dickinson and wife Nicole; great-grandchildren Callan, Catherine, Lachlan, Ella, Emma, Levi; sister Kay Lynn; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. The family would like to thank the caregivers who helped over the years.

Joe was happiest outdoors, especially fishing. Joe never met a stranger and was known for his humor and upbeat spirit. He loved conversation, music and watching races (or himself racing back in the 50’s and 60’s). He will be deeply missed by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 2 pm at Catawba Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave. Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633 or Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton NC 28658.
