Axtell Eye Center will begin seeing patients again on May 1 but we are implementing changes to make your visit as safe as possible. We ask that on the day of your appointment, you bring a mask if you have one. If not, a cloth mask will be provided. When you arrive for you appointment please call us on your cell phone and remain in your car until we call you back to come in. We will es**rt you directly to the exam room. This is to avoid exposure to other patients. Before you come upstairs for your appointment, someone will take your temperature and screen for COVID symptoms. If you fail your screen you will need to reschedule. We ask for your patience during this restart as it will take time to make this efficient. Until we do there may be some unexpected waiting time.

At Axtell Eye Center we committed to staying closed through the month of April. The American Academy of Ophthalmology felt that routine eye care in the middle of a pandemic would waste valuable resources needed elsewhere. During the next two weeks we will be evaluating when to return to seeing patients again. The presence of COVID 19 in our society has not gone away and the end is not yet in sight. Luckily we are in a safer region for the U.S. and this may allow us more freedom to open again safely. Regardless, our method of operation will be drastically different when we reopen. There will likely be screening of all patients about symptoms, temperature testing, isolation of patients in the waiting room to 6 ft, spaced out visits, and the wearing of masks if not PPE during visits. There will be better days, but we must be cautious going forward. I will keep you informed as we know more. Thanks for your patience. Dr. Beck.

You have probably heard about the use of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to treat COVID 19. I see many patients who take hydroxychloroqine for the treatment of autoimmune disease, like lupus, to screen for vision loss.

The risks in this new application with COVID 19 treatment are not well understood. This does not necessarily mean that using it will lead to vision loss, but caution should be taken. If you would like to learn more, please click on the link below.

Please message me if you have questions and stay tuned as more updates become available. Stay safe!
