Therapist Tip Tuesday

Legs up the wall stretch

Our therapist, Jen Scully, of our Woburn location is always recommending this stretch to her clients. Its a simple stretch you can do at home at the end of a long day to help those tight muscles.

Jen recommends to hold the stretch for 5-10 minutes. This will help the stretch work longer. She does this at home herself and she says it is perfect for anyone who doesn't really enjoy stretching as you can do something else at the same time.

Are your hips, glutes, and lower back feeling tight?

That aching feeling in your lower back could be the cause of tight hips and glute muscles. Not to mention that it can trigger sciatic flare-ups. Ouch! For most of us, it comes with prolonged periods of sitting. Are you sitting down now reading this? Then you can probably feel exactly what we are talking about.

Doing this simple Hip Stretch can not only loosen the hips, but also alleviates tension in your lower back and relieves pressure. All you need is a comfortable surface to lay on or pull out your yoga mat. Click the link below to watch how to properly do the Hip Stretch.

We'll show you how to do this stretch 2 ways, sitting in a chair or on the floor.

πŸ‘‰ Lie on your back with knees bent and feet on the floor. Cross left ankle over the right thigh, just above the knee.

πŸ‘‰ Hold the back of your right leg and slowly draw it toward your chest.

πŸ‘‰ When you feel a good stretch, hold this position for 3–5 breaths. To deepen the stretch, gently apply pressure.

πŸ‘‰ Repeat on the other side.
