From John Medina: engage your brain regularly — puzzles, reading, new skills, socializing — to strengthen neural health.

From Dan Buettner: consider your environment. Can you walk more? Eat more whole, plant‐based foods? Connect more with others? These are hallmarks of the Blue Zones lifestyle.

What small shift will you commit to this month & beyond?

“Aging well is not about the years in your life, but the life in your years.” For Healthy Aging Month, let's take inspiration from two APB healthcare speakers who bring science & practice together:

John Medina shows how neuroplasticity continues throughout life, and how simple daily routines—such as restorative sleep, stress management, mental stimulation—make a real difference.

Dan Buettner reveals how “Blue Zones” around the world show us that longevity isn’t magic, but lifestyle: purpose, nature, social bonds, healthy food & movement built in.

A new JAMA Network Open report co-authored by APB healthcare speaker Dr. Jesse Ehrenfeld reveals a concerning reality: many physicians who struggle with depression, anxiety, or PTSD don’t seek help.

Dr. Ehrenfeld, who has lost three colleagues to su***de, makes a powerful point: “The problem is not the person. The problem is the system we drop these people into.”

Key findings:

~1 in 3 physicians report depression
~1 in 4 report anxiety
~10% suffer from PTSD — all higher than in the general population

Systemic reform is needed — from destigmatizing mental health care, overhauling licensing processes that penalize physicians for seeking help, to building safe, confidential paths to care. Let’s push for change—for our doctors, for our health system, for all of us. https://bit.ly/4ghlJ24

APB healthcare speaker Daniel E. Dawes, J.D., a national leader in health equity & policy, is releasing "Mental Health Equity" on September 28th!

This isn’t just another textbook—it’s the first comprehensive work to dig into structural drivers of mental health disparities—things like institutional racism, redlining, political and social determinants, economic & environmental inequities.

With decades of leadership experience, Dawes offers more than insight—he offers action. This book outlines policy & community-based strategies to move from awareness toward real reform. https://bit.ly/41IMF4L

"Michelle Obama told me that I’m not a loser and no, this is not a prank."

APB healthcare speaker Nora McInerny just shared a powerful new Substack post (and video)— and it’s as funny, raw, and moving as you’d expect. It’s equal parts hilarious, deeply human, and overflowing with the kind of affirmation we all secretly crave. Take a few minutes to experience it—it’ll remind you that sometimes, the kindest thing you can say (or hear) is, “You’re doing just fine.”

You didn't misread that.

This Healthy Aging Month, it’s time to rethink what aging well truly means. APB healthcare speaker Dr. John Medina, neuroscientist & author of "Brain Rules for Aging Well," reminds us that staying mentally sharp isn’t about avoiding old age — it’s about cultivating habits that keep your brain alive: sleep, movement, social connection & learning.

Meanwhile, Blue Zones expert Dan Buettner shows how communities where people live longer embed healthy aging into their daily lives — purpose, plant-rich diet, environment & relationships.

What is one change you’ll make this month to age more vibrantly—physically, mentally or socially?

There’s something deeply inspiring about a story of real comeback.

APB healthcare speaker James Hinchcliffe, former IndyCar star, nearly had his racing career end in 2015 during a brutal crash at the Indianapolis 500. Many questioned whether he would ever race again. Just one year later, though, he was back—earning pole position at that same track.

Today, Hinchcliffe isn’t just racing—he's analyzing racing, sharing his journey & inspiring audiences in healthcare with lessons on grit, recovery & resilience: https://bit.ly/3JVDUOZ

APB healthcare speaker Daniel Dawes challenges zero-sum thinking in public health. In a piece published in "Nature Medicine," Dawes confronts the deeply entrenched—and misguided—belief that improving health for marginalized communities means disadvantaging others. Removing barriers & enabling equitable health access strengthens community resilience across the board: https://go.nature.com/3URNvbO
