As National Prevention Month is coming to a close, we are so thankful to have a passionate and effective prevention team looking for ways to protect kids - as future adults - from the dangers of substances. Research shows that individuals who do not use substances prior to the age of 18 are significantly less likely to experience dependence as an adult. We are proud to be able to say that Mirror saves many lives as one of the largest providers of substance use treatment in Kansas while simultaneously working on root causes to prevent substance use for younger generations.

It's our last Mirror Monday of Prevention Month, so we have a quote from our Prevention Specialist, Manny Perez, about his program, Teen Intervene. Manny works hard with students and families throughout the area to redirect kids to healthy behaviors. The students that he works with make challenging decisions to better their life and are often so grateful for the support, education, and encouragement provided by Manny.

It's never too late to have an impactful and positive relationship with the youth that come across your path! That's how prevention begins!

We are beyond proud of the Lawrence Homeless Response Team for receiving this award! The hard work and dedication this team has is contagious. Thank you for serving the community in such an impactful way! 👏

We’re very proud to announce the City of Lawrence Homeless Response Team as the winner of our third annual Health Equity Innovation Award! The award was announced October 23 at the Kansas Health Impact Conference in Manhattan, KS.

HRT stands apart in its work to serve unsheltered individuals—the community’s most marginalized population—who face disproportionate rates of chronic illness, behavioral health crises, substance use disorders, and premature death. In one year, HRT reduced unsheltered homelessness by 66%, expanded access to overdose prevention, and closed critical gaps for those least likely to receive care. The HRT model—integrating health, housing, and harm reduction in a single mobile unit—can be adapted in any community, ensuring long-term impact and feasibility even with limited funding. Moreover, the team actively promotes dignity, choice, and respect in every interaction, ensuring inclusivity for all.

Congratulations to the City of Lawrence HRT and all our outstanding nominees. The work you do makes us all very proud!

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Newton, Kansas for allowing Mirror leadership to come share our mission and how we are impacting lives across Kansas with prevention, treatment, and recovery. There were some members of the club that were involved at Mirror's inception who were able to hear the growth and impact that started with just one house in the Newton community. They shared stories from the beginning with current staff. We love our humble beginnings and the people who made these life-saving impacts possible!

This week, Mirror sponsored and cooked a meal to support the Highland Park High School football team, this is a tradition they have kept going since 2022.

Ashley Leger, Food Service Manager, made a very delicious meal of homemade chicken enchiladas. Combined with the sides, she made the meal extra special with her apple caramel crumble dessert. Thank you, Ashley for taking charge of this effort when things have been very busy at our facility!

Our Prevention team in action! Our staff were able to partner with Sedgwick Public Schools staff this morning to discuss youth substance use trends. We love helping schools support students and help them make healthy decisions!

This morning Benjamin and Melinda were able to speak with teachers at Sedgwick about vaping and helped educate them on what to look for in classrooms and how to help kids make good decisions.
