Would you pick up the phone to “Call a Boomer”? ☎️

A new phone booth near Boston University is connecting college students with seniors living in a retirement community across the country. The idea is simple: start a conversation and bridge the generational gap.

Even a quick chat can brighten someone’s day — especially for older adults who may be feeling lonely.

At Visiting Angels Serving Brookline, Canton, Dedham, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norwood, Stoughton, Watertown, Wellesley and Westwood, we see the power of connection every day. Our caregivers provide companionship that helps seniors stay engaged, supported, and connected to the world around them.
Sometimes all it takes is a conversation. 💛

The BU Pavement Coffeehouse was a natural location for the phone booth, with its college-age clientele and high foot traffic.

A recent Pew Research Center survey found that most older adults prefer to age in place, staying in their own homes while receiving the support they need.

In fact, 60% of seniors say they would prefer to remain at home with a caregiver rather than move to assisted living or other care settings.

At Visiting Angels, we’re proud to help make that possible by providing compassionate in-home care that allows seniors to remain safe, comfortable, and independent where they belong—at home. ❤️

We had a great time connecting with other amazing organizations at The Boston Globe's Top Places to Work Round Table Luncheon!

Karen and Larry joined fellow Top Places to Work winners for a thoughtful discussion about what companies are doing to support, appreciate, and empower their employees. When you surround yourself with organizations that truly value their teams, the ideas and inspiration flow.

We were also excited to meet Katie Johnston, Top Places to Work Editor at The Boston Globe, and talk about the importance of creating a workplace where people feel respected, supported, and proud of the work they do.

And of course… when you're Visiting Angels, you're always on the lookout for Angels 👀

While we didn’t indulge, we couldn’t help but notice this bottle of Angel’s Envy Bourbon with wings etched right into it. Safe to say, we had our eyes on it! 🪽

Being named a Boston Globe Top Place to Work means a lot to us because it reflects the incredible caregivers and office team who make our mission possible every day.

Changes in vision are a normal part of aging, but some symptoms should never be ignored 👀

Things like needing brighter light or using reading glasses are common as we get older. But sudden blurry vision, flashes of light, or eye pain could signal a more serious issue.

Regular eye exams can help detect problems early and protect your loved one’s safety and independence. Vision changes can also increase fall risk, which is why it is important to stay alert to new symptoms.

At Visiting Angels Serving Brookline, Canton, Dedham, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norwood, Stoughton, Watertown, Wellesley and Westwood, our caregivers help seniors stay safe at home by providing support with daily routines, transportation to appointments, and companionship. 💙

At what age are you allowed to start the “What the Hell” diet”? 🍰

A Boston Globe article tells the story of a 93-year-old man who decided that after decades of discipline, a bagel with full-fat cream cheese and a slice of cheesecake sounded perfectly reasonable.

It turns out there’s some interesting science behind aging too. Researchers say that after age 85, mortality rates actually begin to level off in what’s called the “mortality plateau.” In other words, if you make it that far, you’ve probably been doing something right.

Of course, healthy aging is still about the basics: staying active, staying connected, getting good sleep, and keeping your mind engaged.

At Visiting Angels Serving Brookline, Canton, Dedham, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norwood, Stoughton, Watertown, Wellesley and Westwood, we see every day how seniors thrive when they have the right support to stay independent and enjoy life.

And yes… maybe the occasional slice of cheesecake too. 😄

As far as the diet, it can strike suddenly, known as acute-onset What the Hell.
