🗽 Today, we remember the men and women who bravely served our country in the US Armed Forces and gave their lives for freedom's sake. We honor those, named and unnamed, who made the ultimate sacrifice so that people throughout the world might enjoy security, peace, and opportunity. We are blessed by their selfless service. 💙

🪷 Tomorrow wraps up National Skilled Nursing Care Week, whose theme this year is "Moments in Bloom." The theme recognizes everyday acts of compassion and connection that grow into meaningful experiences for residents, families, and staff. It also anticipates how small gestures can develop into impactful moments full of purpose for residents.

We honor all the people who reside in, work in, and volunteer in nursing centers and demonstrate compassion and commitment every single day. Your presence truly makes a difference! 💖 💫

☕️ Mother's Day at Matthew's Place, our affordable housing community in Albemarle, NC, was celebrated with an incredible afternoon tea. Residents enjoyed a selection of hot teas, classic high-tea treats, laughter, and sweet conversation as the community honored its mothers and mother-figures. 🎊

Along with the refined refreshments, attendees engaged in Mother's Day trivia and fellowship. In the end, plenty of smiles were shared on the memorable day. Moments like these remind residents and staff how important community, connection, and celebration are – especially among such wonderful women! 💫

💡 At this year's annual LeadingAge North Carolina conference, EveryAge was honored with the Excellence in Innovation award! We were recognized for our efforts in bringing hydroponic gardening to two of our locations: Carolina Senior Living, an affordable housing community in Lexington, NC, and Piedmont Crossing - Retirement Community in Thomasville, NC.

💦 This type of gardening takes place indoors, without soil, and produces faster, more consistent harvests year-round. EveryAge introduced the system as a way to elevate dining experiences and model sustainable food production. Accepting the award on behalf of EveryAge was Glen Berkel, senior director of hospitality.

At a later session, he and Jenny Brinkle, onsite manager at Carolina Senior Living, also participated in a panel focused on technology and innovation. They spoke about EveryAge's work with dining robots and hydroponic gardening in our various locations, sharing the benefits to residents and tenants in myriad ways. 🥰

We love finding ways to enhance quality of life, connectedness, and sustainability at our communities, and it was incredibly gratifying to be recognized for our efforts and to talk about why they matter! 📣

🎉 Congratulations to Jacob Cornell, health plan manager at Carolina SeniorCare - Lexington, NC, who recently graduated from this year's Leadership Academy through LeadingAge North Carolina!

The year-long program is designed to develop statewide aging services leaders through traditional and experiential learning methods. Jacob's action learning project was centered around “The Power of Music” and its ability to nurture connections, engagement, and expression when words and memory aren't always available. 🎶

He shared that sometimes the most meaningful care we provide doesn't come from a process or a system but through simple moments found in music. It's especially powerful for residents who can feel limited in their independence as they age. 🩷

April is National Occupational Therapy Month, and we've been honoring the OTs who bring comfort, confidence, and independence to the residents and participants we serve. 📣

Occupational therapy helps people regain functional independence for activities of daily living, like bathing and dressing, while using a clinical model of care. They help with the mechanics of 'how' to do a task and provide support through physical rehabilitation, cognitive retraining, environmental modifications, and adaptive equipment. 🛀

Our OT teams encourage residents and participants to stay engaged in the routines, hobbies, and moments that make life full. Their work is deeply personal, compassionate, and rooted in dignity. We're grateful for their patience and commitment in helping our residents and participants thrive! 🌟

Our very own Ruth Finch, Executive Director of Elderhaus, was in Washington, D.C. for Lobby Day—along with leaders from LeadingAge, lending her voice to advocate for older adults. This important day on Capitol Hill ensures the needs and voices of our aging population are heard, represented, and protected—locally and nationally. 💙
