🎉 We recently celebrated another milestone anniversary at the EveryAge Home Office! Tammy Jones, our chief financial officer, marked 15 years of service this month, so we made sure to recognize her long tenure with the organization.

📊 Tammy joined us as a staff accountant in 2010, was promoted to controller in 2013, and named CFO in 2023. We appreciate Tammy's dedication and commitment and are delighted to honor a colleague who has demonstrated her talents and leadership and moved up in the ranks. Congratulations, Tammy! ‼️

At Matthew's Place, our affordable housing community in Albemarle, NC, our residents enjoyed a presentation on 'Living Well with Diabetes' last week. Carleigh Wetmore from the Atrium Health Diabetes & Nutrition Center of Albemarle shared lots of great information and engaged our residents in meaningful conversation about diabetes awareness and management. 🎤

🩸 The Atrium team also provided free blood sugar screenings, shared details about low-cost nail trimming services available at their office, and invited residents to attend their monthly classes and cooking demonstrations. They even offered access to a free personal trainer, which was a big hit with our group! 💪

To complement the theme, we served a healthy spread of fresh veggies and treated everyone to sugar-free cookies—a delicious way to reinforce the message of mindful eating! 🥕 🥦 🍪

💸 Making sense of finances can be a challenge, so our residents at Matthew's Place (our affordable housing community in Albemarle) were excited to welcome Monica Honeycutt, owner of Summit Book Solutions LLC, to speak about smart money strategies. 🧠

Not only did she lead an engaging session on budgeting and money management, but she also printed out monthly budgeting tools for our residents and shared practical advice on how to avoid phishing and fraudulent scams. In addition, she introduced creative ways about how we can save money on purchases, complete with tips on rebate savings and accessing low-cost services. 💰

To make the event even more special, we served a copycat recipe of Wendy's chili, which was a big hit with everyone!

Covenant Place resident Marilyn Bender has found serenity, inspiration, and purpose through her garden box filled with vibrant “sun patients” flowers. Even as fall settles in, their blooms continue to brighten her days—and her heart.

Each afternoon, Marilyn and her beloved dog Casey stroll through the garden, soaking in the beauty and calm it offers. “These flowers remind me of my home in Pennsylvania,” she shares. “Every day I look out my window and think about how good God is.”

Neighbors often stop by to admire the blooms and share memories of their own gardening days. “It’s good for my soul,” Marilyn says. “It gives me peace of mind and something to look forward to.”

Thanks to EveryAge and the Carol Woods Foundation, this garden has become a cherished space for connection, reflection, and joy—for Marilyn, Casey, and the entire Covenant Place community. 🌿💚

🍂 Fall brings the opportunity to honor many of our therapy team members since October is recognized as National Physical Therapy Month and October 27 is named World Occupational Therapy Day.

We're grateful for our therapy team and all the incredible support they provide our residents and participants, whether it's PT's work in reducing pain and restoring physical function, mobility, and strength 💪 or OT's work in helping individuals participate in meaningful daily activities – such as self-care (bathing, dressing), 🛀 🧽 work tasks, and leisure.

The care and compassion our therapists bring are unmatched! 💙

🍂 To lean into the autumn season, our residents at Matthew's Place (EveryAge's affordable housing community in Albemarle, NC) enjoyed an afternoon session of Sip & Paint. 🎨

They gathered for a cozy and creative time, painting fall-themed canvases that tapped into each person's artistic side. The mocktail of choice – Cherry Lime Ginger Beer – not only added a fun twist but was a refreshing treat and a terrific complement to the season. 🍻

To add to the relaxed atmosphere, we played classic 60s music, which sparked memories and conversation among residents. It was a lovely way to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the spirit of fall! 🎶🍁

👮 Earlier this month, the Albemarle Police Department came to speak to our Matthew's Place residents about scams and fraud awareness. Matthew's Place is one of our seven affordable housing communities. 🏘

The session was incredibly valuable in helping our seniors learn about common scams, protect their finances, and understand what steps to take if they’ve encountered fraudulent activity. Lieutenant Jackson provided clear, practical guidance and answered questions with compassion and expertise. 📱 💻

Our residents appreciated being able to learn directly from trusted local professionals and to connect with community helpers! 💙

On Thursday, September 18th, Covenant Place in Chapel Hill marked its 27th anniversary with a vibrant Caribbean-themed celebration! Residents were treated to tropical vibes, colorful décor, and lively island music that filled the community room with joy.

🎶 From Caribbean trivia games to a festive tiki bar serving fruit punch, the event was full of fun and flavor! 🍍

The delicious Caribbean-inspired meal was prepared by Glen Berkel, Senior Director of Hospitality at EveryAge, and featured:

Jerk chicken & pork
Sautéed cabbage
“Hoppin’ John” (rice & black-eyed peas)
Mango-flavored sheet cake for dessert

It was a day to remember—celebrating community, culture, and 27 wonderful years together! 💛
