For Women's History Month, we're highlighting several women who have made an impact at White Horse Village!

CNA Sakina Stewart, or “Kiwi” as most people call her, has a heart for making a difference in people's lives. Her caring spirit shines through her interactions with residents and their families. She’s able to build a special connection with family members, giving them reassurance that their loved ones are in good hands. Sakina didn’t start out working in healthcare. In fact, she assumed she wouldn’t like it much. But thankfully for us, one of her friends persuaded her to give it a try and has now been in a healthcare career since 2002. “I love it,” she says, even though there are ups and downs. Team members like Sakina exemplify our values of compassion and relationships. They make our community strong!

Women's History Month is a reminder of the vital roles women have played in shaping history, culture, and society. This month we are highlighting the stories of four women who have made their mark on our community!

First up is our dedicated board chair, Joan Deming-Murphy. Joan started her career as a neonatal nurse at Johns Hopkins, and kept following new educational and job opportunities. Even in arenas where there were few women in the room, Joan persevered and excelled, and ended up running her own consulting business.

She’s still finding ways to put her talents and wisdom to good use, and we’re very grateful that she agreed to serve on the White Horse Village board in 2022.

We are pleased to announce the launch of White Horse Village Therapy, led by Director of Rehabilitation Services Dale Ko. This brings physical, occupational, and speech therapy services under direct management by our community. Therapy plays a vital role in maintaining independence, supporting recovery and promoting overall wellness, and by bringing these services in-house, we are able to offer plans tailored to residents’ evolving needs.

Thanks to Health Advisory Partners for helping us develop this program! Their expertise ensures we are fully prepared and positioned for long-term success.

Congratulations to our team members who are reaching these impressive milestones in February! CNA Denise Lilly, right, has been with us for 15 years, and skilled nursing clerk Kathleen Walz is reaching her 10-year anniversary.

We hope you had as much fun on Valentine's Day as we did! Singles and couples alike celebrated with appetizers and champagne, a special dinner, and then dancing with DJ Lillian providing the soundtrack.

Happy first birthday to White Horse Village Home Care! What started years ago as our Resident Support Services Program has grown into a much larger service. Home Care companions offer assistance with household tasks and other needs, enabling residents to live more independently. Pictured are members of the original RSSP team!
