Mental health is health.

This May, we’re recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month as a time to normalize conversations around emotional wellbeing, reduce stigma, and remind ourselves that care for the mind is just as important as care for the body.

A few questions to reflect on this week:
• How do you currently care for your mental health?
• What messages about mental health did you grow up with?
• Are those messages still serving you today?

Awareness is the first step toward change—and support is always valid, not just when things feel unmanageable.

Bipolar disorder isn’t just “highs and lows”—it’s distinct mood states that impact energy, behavior, and functioning.

Understanding the differences helps reduce stigma and supports earlier intervention.

If you or someone you love is struggling, support is available. 💬

Not sure what to say to someone in recovery?

You’re not alone—and your words do matter. 💬

Addiction and mental health struggles are complex, and even well-meaning comments can unintentionally cause harm. The good news? Small shifts in language can make a huge difference in helping someone feel supported, seen, and understood.

At Rosewood Recovery, we believe healing happens in connection—and that starts with compassion.

✍️ At a crossroads—what would you choose?

Student therapist Maria M ran a group this week, where clients were invited to write a short story about a character facing a pivotal decision: take a step toward growth or remain stuck in familiar patterns. Afterward, the group reflected on their stories, explored the meaning behind their choices, and offered thoughtful feedback to one another.

It was a powerful reminder of how insight, creativity, and connection can open the door to change.

Ever wondered if your drinking falls into a “normal” range?

Today is National Alcohol Screening Day—a chance to pause and check in.

The questions in this post are inspired by a clinically validated screening tool (The AUDIT) used worldwide to better understand alcohol use patterns.

This isn’t about labels or judgment—it’s about awareness.

If your answers raise questions or concerns, that’s worth paying attention to.

Support doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing. Whether you’re cutting back, exploring change, or just want to talk, we’re here.

📩 Confidential, compassionate support is always available.

Lori has worked in Pennsylvania since earning her MS in 2009. When it came time to pursue her LPC, she chose to stay west of the Delaware and obtain her license in Pennsylvania. While her career has kept her rooted in PA, she’s a Jersey girl at heart - and recently took the step to become licensed in New Jersey as well.

“It’s meaningful to be licensed in more than one state. With the Counseling Compact, I knew I needed to be licensed in my home state to be eligible, so I went for it.”

We’re proud of Lori for taking this step and continuing to expand her impact.

Journaling is one of the simplest - and most effective - coping skills you can use.

When thoughts start to build up, writing them down can help create space, clarity, and relief. You don’t need the “right words.” You just need a place to start.

Give yourself permission to be honest, messy, and real.

Earlier this week a group at Rosewood Recovery focused on Internal Family Systems (IFS) Parts Work—exploring the different “parts” within us and how they show up in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Clients practiced noticing these parts with curiosity rather than judgment, creating space for increased self-awareness, emotional regulation, and compassion toward the self.

IFS helps individuals better understand internal conflict and begin building a stronger connection to Self-leadership in recovery.

Healing happens when we learn to listen inward.
