Supporting new moms is crucial for successful breastfeeding and the health of the baby. It truly takes a village to help moms on their breastfeeding journey. Every mom can benefit from early support from lactation consultants and breastfeeding-supportive doulas, as well as lactation medicine-trained physicians, pediatricians, or obstetricians.

Even experienced moms face challenges balancing the needs of a new baby with older children. That's when all hands are on deck. Ensuring she has food and drinks available, offering homemade fresh food, helping with baby-holding for showers and naps, and assisting in finding good help if needed are great ways to support her. Being mindful of visitors, looking after older children, and standing against pressure to separate mom and baby are equally important.

I strongly encourage new moms to find a physician who will support and teach them to protect their milk supply, especially in situations when supplementation is medically necessary. A breastfeeding advocate pediatrician will encourage feeding on demand and work with moms to identify factors that can help increase breast milk supply or resolve breastfeeding difficulties, including latching issues and breastfeeding positions.

Breastfeeding support can make a world of difference, creating a smoother and more fulfilling breastfeeding journey for both mom and baby. 💕🤱💗

Lovely spring time! When I see roses blooming outside, I already started seeing Roseola inside [the office].

Roseola is a viral infection cause by Human Herpes Virus 6. It’s common in the spring and fall, and it tends to affect young children. The virus can enter the body through the nose and mouth. It is spread when a child breathes in droplets that contain the virus after an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or laughs.

Classic presentation: 2-3 days of high fever without other symptoms, then rash onset 12-24 hours after fever breaks.
The rash is typically small, flat, pink dots on chest and stomach, generally spread to both sides of body and then spread to the face.

Good news: it usually isn’t serious, and it goes away on its own in a week or so.

Treatment of Roseola includes cool washcloths and medications to reduce fever to keep your child comfortable. Always encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids.

You should always consult your pediatrician for advice specific to your child’s needs and health history. Follow up with your doctor if the symptoms don’t get better, or your child is feeling worse.
