This is a mind blowing study and something that all parents should know before they take their kid to the pediatrician.

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic followed every child born in Olmstead County Minnesota where the hospital system is based over an 11-year period. They compared roughly 10,000 children who took an anabiotic in the first two years of life to approximately 4,000 children who did not. The children who took antibiotics grew up to have much higher rates of obesity, learning disabilities, asthma, and celiac disease.

Here’s the data of the kids who took antibiotics versus the ones that did not:

-20% higher risk of obesity
-21% higher risk of a learning disability
-32% higher risk of ADHD
-90% higher risk of asthma
-289% risk of celiac disease.

And we were told antibiotics are harmless…

I see so many patients in my practice, who have irritable bowel, ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel disease, and the one thing that most of these people have in common is that they took antibiotics early on in life. However, they (or their parents) we’re never told about the long-term dangers.

Short term gain vs. long term risk?? Like a lot of lifestyle meds.

They found that patients prescribed GLP-1s were at significantly higher risk of pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, and gastroparesis. Researchers also saw a slight increase in the risk of biliary disease, conditions affecting the gallbladder, but were deemed not statistically significant. Here’s how those numbers broke down:

9.09 times higher risk of pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is a painful inflammation of the pancreas, which can become chronic. Symptoms of pancreatitis include abdominal pain, nausea, nausea, fever, and a swollen or tender abdomen.
4.22 times higher risk of intestinal obstruction (ileus). Intestinal obstruction occurs when the intestines are unable to pass their contents. A blockage can occur due to nerve or muscle problems in the intestine. This condition is serious and potentially fatal when it occurs.
3.67 times higher risk of gastroparesis, sometimes called stomach paralysis. Gastroparesis is when the stomach takes too long to empty its contents. It is frequently accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

GLP-1 drugs, which include Ozempic and Wegovy, are commonly associated with gastrointestinal issues like nausea and vomiting.
