Newtown Yoga Festival

Newtown Yoga Festival Join us for on August 24, 2019 with Stephen Cope & Felicia Tomasko! Join us for a joyful, heart opening day. Namaste

The Newtown Yoga Festival was formed as a holistic solution to make the healing properties of yoga, mindfulness, and music accessible to everyone. We understand that everyone has been and is continuously exposed to stress and trauma as a byproduct of life. We chose to create this day of community to honor the lives lost, celebrate the strength and resilience of human-kind and offer healing with a compassionate practice focusing on peace. Newtown Yoga Festival is an independent grass roots group of volunteers with a mission to partner with local studios to provide several 6 week yoga class series featuring a teacher of the studios choice paid for with funds raised through Newtown Yoga Festival.

According to various reports, Tao Porchon-Lynch passed away today.
When someone has lived 101 years, I don't think it's tragic when they pass, I marvel that they were able to share their passion, wisdom and touch so many lives. She lived well. She lived fully. She gave people something to aspire to beyond 80. "I'm going to teach yoga until I can't breathe anymore. Then I will just fly away to the next planet." Fly high dear Tao. So much love to this amazing woman.

7 years ago today, 28 people died in gun violence in Sandy Hook/Newtown and the world stopped. We have spent today and every day since 12/14/12 practicing loving kindness and creating days of peace through yoga movement, music & mindfulness in honor of lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Don’t pray, DO something. Prayers will not stop the violence; honor all the victims of gun violence by taking action. Whether it’s advocating for victims through our justice system or a non-profit promoting peace or choosing love...Get involved! Find ways to reconnect, show empathy and compassion and then model that for others. Smile, hold open a door, give your seat on the bus to someone else, give a gift card to the homeless or buy them a meal, hug someone in comfort, be kind to those who “don’t fit in”, pay it forward, and so on.

“Peacemaking doesn’t mean passivity. It is the act of interrupting injustice without mirroring injustice, the act of disarming evil without destroying the evildoer, the act of finding a third way that is neither fight nor flight but the careful, arduous pursuit of reconciliation and justice. It is about a revolution of love that is big enough to set both the oppressed and the oppressors free.” ― Shane Claiborne

We have a choice…WE CHOOSE LOVE! Every day, we choose…Love.
