Such a perfect night 🎄

Thank you to everyone that came out to the Niagara Christmas Tree lighting event. It was a great night! Great weather, awesome food, and lots of cheer! Santa and Mrs. Claus were mobbed (in a good way) by children of all ages as they were dropped of by Niagara Police Chief Michael Chapman and the Niagara Area Emergency Unit.

A big thank you to Bryan and Shelby DeForge and their family and friends who put this free event on each year. They are also responsible for actually decorating the tree. They also coordinated the Wine Walk in Niagara that past few years, which is the major fundraiser for this event.

Tonight!Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive around 5:15. The tree will be lit at 6:00.

In its longstanding tradition, the Niagara School will be honoring our veterans with a celebration today at 9:00 a.m. Major Mary Ann (Van Hulla) Perry, Niagara American Legion Post 136, is the selected speaker. Major Perry grew up on a local farm, graduating from Niagara High School in 1967. She went to Milwaukee directly after high school and has recently returned home after 56 years, 20 of those years were spent living off the grid in the wilderness of the Mojave National Preserve in Southeast California. Mary Ann enlisted in the US Army Reserve in 1975, and by 1980 she graduated from Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on her 31st birthday. Major Perry commanded the 415th Replacement Company stationed at Ft. Benning during the Iraq War. She served in Combat Service Support units her entire military career in Milwaukee and California, retiring in 1996 after 20 years. Major Perry has an Associate of Arts degree in Commercial Art from Milwaukee Technical College, a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from National University, a Master of Large System Management degree from the University of Southern California, and completed Command and General Staff College. During her civilian career, Mary Ann worked as a logistics readiness inspector of US Army Reserve units under the command of 6th Army. She later managed ground transportation for the Space Station and Delta II Rocket programs for McDonald Douglas Co. / Boeing Co. Mary Ann is one of the smiling faces at Karen’s Pantry, where she is an active volunteer. We commend and thank Mary Ann for her remarkable achievements and service.
