Now is the season for homegrown tomatoes and peaches, and if youโ€™ve never tried the two together, youโ€™re in for a treat. This simple salad, adapted from a recipe by Bill Smith in Southern Living, has all the flavors of a BLT without the bread โ€” with a surprise burst of tangy sweetness that brings out the best in the tomatoes. If you donโ€™t eat bacon, feel free to use a plant-based substitute, or use sliced, toasted almonds instead. Serves 4-6.

๐ƒ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ :

2/3 cup mayonnaise
ยฝ cup buttermilk
ยผ cup plain Greek yogurt
ยฝ cup finely chopped fresh herbs such as basil, thyme, marjoram, or parsley, plus more for garnish
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
ยฝ teaspoon kosher salt
ยผ teaspoon black pepper

๐’๐š๐ฅ๐š๐:

4 to 6 medium-size firm ripe peaches, unpeeled
1 to 1 ยฝ pounds mixed cherry and beefsteak heirloom tomatoes (or any ripe summer tomato)
4 ounces baby arugula or Little Gem lettuce
8 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled (about 1 cup), or plant-based substitute
ยพ teaspoon kosher salt

๐ˆ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ:

Make the dressing: At least 30 minutes (or up to 2 days ahead) before you plan to serve it, whisk together the mayonnaise, buttermilk, and yogurt in a small bowl until well combined. Stir in the herbs. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.

Meanwhile, make the salad: Slice the peaches into ยฝ to 1-inch wedges. (These can be covered and chilled up to a day ahead of time.) Just before serving, slice the beefsteak tomatoes into ยฝ- to 1-inch wedges and cut the cherry tomatoes in half. Sprinkle the tomatoes evenly with the remaining salt and set aside.

Assemble the salads: Divide the lettuce evenly among 4 to 6 plates. Arrange the tomatoes and peaches on top of the lettuce. Sprinkle with the bacon. Drizzle each salad with 2 tablespoons of dressing and garnish with additional herbs. Serve immediately with the remaining dressing on the side.

We all have our favorite summer activities. But now, itโ€™s time to dust off that list of favorites and make some plans. No matter whatโ€™s on your list, be sure to add strength, stamina and agility to your goals. Because if youโ€™re not in good physical shape, youโ€™re going to continue to be limited in what you can do.

And it doesnโ€™t matter what youโ€™re hoping to enjoy. Being fit will help you do it, while improving your quality of life and extending your independence.

Letโ€™s look at common reasons people over 50 decide to get fit or stay fit. What does each one inspire you to do this season? We are here to help you make those desires a reality.

1. Grandkids. Nobody wants to be the โ€œboring nana,โ€ right? Millions of todayโ€™s grandparents play active roles in their grandkidsโ€™ lives. Summer Fun Item: Anything from playing tag in the living room to coaching sports, from flying to Disney or driving to camp.

2. Feel, Look and Move Better. Most of us want the benefits of exercise more than we want long hours in the gym. Exercise improves your mood, your appearance, and your mobility. Summer Fun Item: I want to look my best for our daughterโ€™s spring wedding.

3. Hobbies. Gardening and hiking are just two of the physically demanding hobbies that people enjoy and want to continue, regardless of age. Summer Fun Item: Explore my townโ€™s bike trails and parks.

4. Sports. Some people go to the gym because they like to work out. But for many, it helps them keep doing something else they love. Summer Fun Item: Beat my brother-in-law at golf again.

5. Travel. Is it time to resume checking off that list of places you always wanted to visit? Summer Fun Item: Meet old friends for walking tours of great cities or national parks.

6. Mental Health. You might know that exercise is good for your body. But did you realize itโ€™s also great for your mind, helping to build memory and ward off dementia? Summer Fun Item: I want to pray or meditate on a beach, mountaintop, or countryside porch.

7. Physical Health. Did you hear about the real โ€œwonder drugโ€ to help keep your body healthy? Itโ€™s called exercise! Fitness even helps us recover from common surgeries and illnesses. Summer Fun Item: I want to see shock (the good kind) on my doctorโ€™s face at my fall visit.

It really doesnโ€™t matter what you want to do this season. Itโ€™s your life! You should enjoy doing whatever you like.

Itโ€™s our job to help you get or stay fit over 50 so you can live life on your own terms for as long as you want.

Remember to drink plenty of water, avoid the heat, and wear sunscreen!

Itโ€™s hard to go wrong with chips and salsa for a party snack thatโ€™s quick to make and sure to be a crowd-pleaser. This version, slightly adapted from the Eating Well website and based on a Texas classic thatโ€™s recently gone viral on TikTok, takes the spicy dip to another level.

Here the fundamental ingredients of tomato, onion, chilies, and citrus are bolstered by protein-rich beans and corn, making it a light but filling side or main dish. Not only is it heart-healthy but it also fits into virtually any diet: vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free. Serves 12 to 16 as an appetizer, or 4 to 6 as a light main or side. -- Susan Puckett

1 large red bell pepper, chopped

Summerโ€™s here โ€” and while the sunshine lifts our spirits and invites us outdoors, itโ€™s also a time to stay smart about our health and safety.

Hereโ€™s a refresher on staying safe, strong, and comfortable all season long.

~Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Drink plenty of water โ€” even before you feel thirsty. Dehydration can sneak up in the heat, especially during outdoor activity. Aim for half an ounce to 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight. Add fruit or cucumber slices to a pitcher for a refreshing twist.

~Time your activity wisely.
Early morning or evening is best for gardening, walking, or other movement. Avoid the midday heat whenever possible. If you're outside, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat, and donโ€™t forget the sunscreen โ€” SPF 30 to 50, broad-spectrum, and reapplied often.

~Know the warning signs.
Watch for dizziness, nausea, fatigue, or cramps โ€” signs of heat exhaustion that can lead to heat stroke. If you feel unwell, stop and cool down right away.

~Win the mosquito battle.
Empty standing water around the yard and use repellents approved by the CDC. Yellow-tinted bulbs attract fewer bugs for outdoor lighting.

~Eat fresh, sleep well, and go easy on alcohol.
Summer produce is at its peak โ€” enjoy it! And rest is essential, especially during extreme heat.

Weโ€™re here to help.
Our gym is cool, safe, and welcoming all summer long. Come in, cool down, and keep moving!

Weโ€™re six months into 2025. That might bring one of two reactions about your fitness goals:

1. โ€œWow, Iโ€™m crushing it.โ€

2. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ wasnโ€™t I going to finally start [fill in the blank]?โ€

Whichever one sounds like you, hereโ€™s the good news:

Itโ€™s not too late. Not even close.

Now is the perfect time to reset or recommit, whether youโ€™re building on a strong first half or just now ready to make a change.

Here are 25 simple, powerful things anyone can do to live a healthier, more energetic second half of the year.

Pick a few. Or try them all.

1. Move every day. It doesnโ€™t have to be at the gym. Walk the dog, dance in the kitchen, stretch before bed. Just move.
2. Limit calories if youโ€™re trying to lose weight. Calories in vs. calories out. It really is that simple.
3. More fruits and veggies, less candy and chips.
4. More lean protein, fewer candy bars and donuts.
5. More water, less alcohol and soda (yes, even diet).
6. Lift weights. People over 50 should strength train 2โ€“3 times a week.
7. Donโ€™t eat in front of the TV. Mindless eating = more eating.
8. Consider hiring a trainer. Itโ€™s not just for athletes. Itโ€™s for anyone who wants support, accountability, and results. Talk to us about options.
9. Or enroll in small-group personal training. Built-in motivation and community.
10. Talk to your trainer about your goals. Want to hike with your grandkids? Travel with ease? Be specific.
11. Also share your concerns. A good trainer can adapt for injuries, health conditions, or confidence levels.
12. Tell your loved ones you love them. Every day.
13. Meditate, pray, or practice mindfulness. Even a few minutes helps.
14. Do the thing. Yes, that thing youโ€™ve been avoiding.
15. Focus on losing fat, not just weight. Strength + body composition = a better measure of health than the scale.
16. Sleep well. Recovery is where the magic happens.
17. Remember, exercise is the miracle drug. It helps every system in your body โ€” and your brain, too.
18. Practice gratitude. Every day you can move is a gift.
19. Remember exercise is fun. Or at least it can be! Try new things, find your joy.
20. Get outside. Sunshine, fresh air, nature โ€” they do a body (and mind) good.
21. Wear sunscreen and stay hydrated. Especially in summer.
22. Read a book. And turn off the doomscrolling for a bit.
23. You do you. Youโ€™re the expert on your own life. Trust that.
24. Schedule your workouts like any important appointment. Because they are.
25. Donโ€™t go it alone. Partner up, join a group, talk to us. Youโ€™re not in this by yourself.

Weโ€™re here when youโ€™re ready. Whether that means answering a question, showing you around, or helping you take that first step โ€” or your hundredth.

Make this your healthiest year yet. Youโ€™ve still got plenty of time. Call us today!
