First day of school: IT’S HERE!!!
Helpful hints for a successful school year
Take all meditations to the school nurse or the front that are to be administered to your child while at school. Make sure the appropriate consent/permisoon forms are signed.
Make to do lists for
Getting book bag ready for school tomorrow
-make sure all homework is complete
-put completed homework assignments in bookbag
- make sure parent signed planner
- make lunch ahead of time if possible
-put school bag at the back door (where you can remember to take it to school)
Make other similar lists for day routines that do not change. Laminate the list, and use dry erase pens to let kids check off completed items. This helps them learn organization and task completion in simple, easy-to-remember blocks of time and memory.
Reminds kids when to wash their hands at school: after going to the bathroom, before lunch, after recess or PE, after sharing art supplies, instruments, crayons, computers, books etc with other classmates
Remind kids not to share: FOOD, hair brushes, combs, ponytail holders, scrunchies, clips, headbands, headphones, EarPods, hoodies, makeup.
Keep hand sanitizer in the book bags but remind kids that hand sanitizer does not replace washing hands with soap and water when available.
Report bullying to teachers and to you. Zero tolerance policy. ALSO explain to you child what bullying is, so your child fies not bully others.
Minimize screen time if it cannot be eliminated. Reading or drawing are much better uses of time thatn looking at a screen. Prolonged or repeated screen time for children will result in their being defiant, aggressive, irritable, short tempered , abd developing tantrum throwing behaviors. If computer use is needed for completing homewor, children in elementary and middle school should be supervised during these time. Have your kids use a computer/laptop at the kitchen table or home office where you can see them constantly.
MOST IMPORTANT !!!!
Parents must check in with each school age child daily: how was school today? New friends? Old friends? What did you learn today? Review planner and homework due tomorrow, end of the week, ongoing projects? Let your child tell you about their day first before you start asking question. Stop what you are doing (cooking, answering emails texts or phone calls) and actively listen to your child. It will make a difference to your child even if they don’t say so.
REMEMBER:
1. SCHOOL DOES NOT REPLACE PARENTING!
2. PARENTING IS ALWAYS NECESSARY
3. PARENTING IS NEVER CONVENIENT!!!
We wish all students a healthy, happy and productive experience this school year: 2025-2026!
GO FORTH AND DO GREAT THINGS!
