From A Hand To Hold, Private Senior Care
BM's. Yes! Bowel movements are very important and planning meals that your parents will enjoy can be a way to ensure they're getting the right amount of fiber. Everyone is different. We all have areas of concern in which we need to focus.
A high-fiber diet is important for dementia patients because it can positively impact their gut health, which is closely linked to brain health through the gut-brain axis. Fiber acts as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial bacteria in the gut, and the resulting short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) can have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. Additionally, fiber can help regulate blood sugar levels, improve nutrient absorption, and potentially reduce the risk of vascular dementia.
Think about what your goal is and nourish their body with all the things to achieve goals and create the best of the rest.
What are some items you find beneficial that you add to your diet or a loved ones diet?
Personally, I like to add in avocados and dried fruit!
Have a great lunch!
