Can’t tell if you have body acne or keratosis pilaris?🤷♀️🤷♂️
Both skin conditions look very similar but they have different causes and require different treatments.🩺
Body acne can appear as red/brown bumps that can be inflamed, filled with pus or even as blackheads or whiteheads. It usually appears in clusters or as isolated spots and is typically found on the back, chest, shoulder and buttocks.
Keratosis pilaris can appear as small red/brown rough bumps associated with dry skin. It usually appears in patches and is most commonly found on the upper arms, thighs and buttocks.
Body acne is caused by clogged pores and can be triggered by sweat, friction, hormones and bacteria. Keratosis pilaris is caused by a buildup of keratin in hair follicles and can be triggered by dry skin, genetics and buildup of dead skin cells.
The best treatment for body acne is focusing on regular cleansing with acne-fighting ingredients (like salicylic acid & benzoyl peroxide), wearing loose clothing and avoiding comedogenic products.
The best treatment for keratosis pilaris is exfoliating regularly (using AHAs like glycolic acid) and moisturizing to keep the skin hydrated and smooth.
