Join us in congratulating the winners of the second round of the Bluegrass AgTech Development Corp Challenge Grant! 🎉

Today, at our global headquarters in Kentucky, we were proud to introduce the recipients of the 2025 Bluegrass AgTech Challenge Grant alongside our valued partners: the City of Lexington, Ky - Government, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

2025 Challenge Grant winners:

🌽 Kanbol Inc. is advancing Kentucky agriculture’s circular economy by transforming corn stover, a byproduct of corn production, into compostable food containers. Using patented technology, Kanbol creates sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging while opening a new value stream for farmers.

👷‍♂️ Orb Technologies is reimagining construction with its Biomie bio-composite block, a multifunctional building material made from straw and grass crops. These materials replace high-carbon construction inputs while providing new income opportunities for Kentucky farmers who supply biomass.

👩‍🌾 Santerre International is developing a zero-waste process that converts invasive carp into fertilizer products for use by organic producers. These products address a critical barrier for Kentucky’s organic farms which often lack affordable, consistent access to quality soil amendments.

Bluegrass AgTech Development Corp is building an innovation ecosystem for entrepreneurs and startups in the agriculture sector. These outstanding winners will help advance our shared mission to position Kentucky as the agricultural technology capital of the United States.

For centuries, stories have been humanity’s most powerful tool for connection. From gathering around fires to raising a glass of Town Branch® Bourbon, we’ve used storytelling to share knowledge, inspire change and bring people together.

In agriculture, our challenge isn’t a lack of facts — it’s making those facts resonate. That’s why we created World Without Cows. Rather than reacting defensively to criticism, we chose action — leading the conversation with compelling, science-backed storytelling. By weaving together the voices of farmers, scientists and even critics, the film sparks thoughtful discussions about the cow’s role in nourishing our planet.

The response has been extraordinary. In just one year, we’ve shared this film in 32 countries, across 12 film festivals, policy forums, industry events and — most recently — under the stars at Chaney's Dairy Barn right here in Kentucky. One thing has become clear: people are craving balanced, informed conversations about where their food comes from.

And it’s not just being seen — it’s being heard. In its first year, World Without Cows has already earned recognition:

🏆 1 win and 2 nominations for Best Documentary
🥇 “Outstanding Excellence” Award
🥈 Silver Telly Award

Science explains why storytelling works. Neuroscience shows that when we engage with a narrative, our brains mirror the storyteller’s — a process called neural coupling. This synchrony deepens comprehension, builds empathy and improves memory retention. And as studies in the Journal of Neuroscience reveal, anticipating a story’s resolution even triggers dopamine, making us more likely to stay engaged and take action. (https://bit.ly/4lTTpnz)

With September bringing Bourbon Heritage Month, we’re reminded of Kentucky’s own storytelling legacy — how a simple spirit became a global cultural icon because people connected with its history, craft and meaning. Agriculture’s story deserves the same.

Numbers tell us what happened. Stories tell us why it matters.

Join us in shaping that narrative and supporting agriculture’s role by supporting science-backed storytelling: worldwithoutcows.com/contribute

Our Story

At the heart of Alltech is an entrepreneurial journey.

In the 1970s, our founder, Dr. Pearse Lyons, immigrated to the United States with a dream: to sustain our planet and all things living on it. As an Irish scientist, he saw an opportunity to apply his yeast fermentation expertise to animal nutrition challenges, and his dream became a reality when he founded Alltech in 1980 with just $10,000.

Today, a global team of more than 6,000 people around the world shares this vision of sustaining and nourishing the world’s plants, animals and people.

We deliver on this vision by improving plant, feed and food quality through nutrition and scientific innovation, particularly yeast-based technology. Our team is fully committed to helping plants and animals achieve their full potential while supporting producers in greater efficiency, profitability and sustainability.
