Winter sports can be a blast — but they also come with risks. The CDC reports that snowboarding alone accounts for a quarter of all winter sports accidents, and about 30% of sledding injuries are head-related. Common injuries from winter sports and activities include concussions, shoulder dislocation, knee ligament tears and sprains, strains or fractures from slips and falls.
As you or your family bundle up for fun in the snow or cold, keep these winter safety tips in mind:
❄️ Warm up before hitting the slopes or rink
❄️ Wear proper gear (helmet, gloves, and ankle-supporting footwear)
❄️ Check equipment before use
❄️ Stay hydrated and know your limits
If pain or injury does happen, don’t wait — get checked out by a health care provider so you can get back to enjoying the winter season.
