Don't forget that on 4/1/18 Medicare began rolling out the new Medicare Beneficiary Id (MBI) number! It is important to get your front desk accustomed to asking Medicare patients for their most recent card. See a card example below and don't forget that when registering the new MBI, do not use the dashes!

Mental Health & Substance Abuse providers in NYS! If you don't accept Medicaid but do accept managed Medicaid...NYS had not carved in to managed care Medicaid for clients 20 years old and under. This means that if you do not participate with Medicaid, you cannot see them. All clients 20 years old and under receiving mental health or substance abuse services must have their claims sent to Medicaid regardless of the fact that they are on managed Medicaid. Call or message us for further explanation!

NYS Medicaid Managed Care is here! If you are mental health or substance abuse providers...do you know about the HE and HF modifiers? They are especially important if you are billing under OMH and/or OASAS. Be sure to research the modifiers required when billing substance abuse claims to the managed medicaid plans.

Anyone hear about the New York States mandate on Telemedicine Coverage? This applies to all programs (ie: commercial, Medicaid managed care, Child Health Plus, Healthy NY, and the Essential Plan), except the Medicare Advantage plans.

Under the mandate, these products will be required to cover electronic information and communication technologies when a provider uses them to deliver healthcare services to a patient while the patient is located at a different site than where the provider is located.

Look into the use of modifiers GT and GQ on these types of services.

Check with your plans to see what their 2016 effective date and payment policy is for this mandate!
