30 plus years working in 3 real estate markets, I discovered in life I could do one thing really well - Buy & Sell real estate. The career - fulling. The relationships made - lasting and enjoyable. The stress nearly killed me. Literally.
My body began to shut down. By the time I reached a doctor (as I was far too busy to listen to my body to stop and realize I needed help) my organs were slowly shutting down. Worse, I could feel my body dying. I was 50.
Diagnosis? Sever hypoglycemia, hypothyroid, severe anxiety, systemic shingles, frozen shoulder, organs shutting down due to lack of food and nutrients (I don’t eat under stress), plus dealing with the normal ‘life change’ issues.
My doctor’s response - start eating or I’m putting you in the hospital. (whoa - not fun!) He told me there is nothing they can do for Shingles other than ‘treat’ it. Told me I would be on a lifetime of Synthroid for my thyroid, and he could give me something for anxiety - like Prozac. (the stuff that could cause me to grow monkey arms, I’m just sure of it!) Frozen shoulder he could give me painful steroid injections (um - no. I’ll not add to my pain, thank you) As I sat an listened to the remedies he was offering I realized I would be trading one suffering issue with another. I asked, “Will I ever feel normal again? Like I did before this started?” He gave me a surprised look, “It took you years to get here and your unlikely to recover from all of this. There are no cures for some of what you have.”
