Wellness Wednesdays: Summer is Road-Trip Time! If you're planning a long car ride this summer, here are a few tips to help prevent or assist with back pain while you travel:
- Keep your back pockets empty so your hips are level
- Sit up straight to keep your spine aligned
- Get out and move around every 2 hours, more often if you have low back pain
- Shift positions at least every 15-20 minutes.
- Keep your back aligned with against the back of the seat, using a lumbar cushion or place a towel between your low back and the seat to provide support
- Try heat or ice therapy. Heat helps relax muscles and ice can help reduce inflammation. Use therapies for 15-20 minutes at a time.
