Dr. Avinash Inabathula is a board-eligible adult hip and knee reconstructive surgeon at Indiana Joint Replacement Institute. He specializes in total hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, revision surgery, and robotic and computer-guided procedures.

Raised in Fishers, Indiana, Dr. Inabathula takes a compassionate, individualized approach to care. He works alongside patients to create treatment plans that match their goals and believes in honest discussions about expectations for both surgical and non-surgical options. Having undergone major orthopedic surgery himself, he treats patients with the same care he would want for his own family.

With training from Indiana University, Southern Illinois University, Northshore University Health System, and a research internship at Oxford, he brings world-class techniques and experience to patients across Indiana.

In his piece titled “In My Experience… Preserving the Doctor-Patient Relationship in Practice,” Dr. Meneghini reflects on the importance of maintaining strong surgeon and patient relationships in today’s changing health care environment. He provides insight into the motivation behind creating a physician-led, vertically integrated practice model and how this approach supports access to high-quality, patient-centered care.

His perspective highlights the ongoing challenges private practice surgeons face and the importance of preserving autonomy, sustainability, and meaningful connections with patients.

Tom Stevens spent years enjoying life with his wife, traveling the world, and caring for his farm. Over time, hip and sciatic pain began making daily tasks more challenging. Physical therapy helped for a while, but the discomfort was affecting his sleep and quality of life.

Referred to Dr. Kyle Stoops at Indiana Orthopedic Institute, Tom learned he had advanced osteoarthritis in his hip. With Dr. Stoops’ guidance, Tom set a goal: to recover in time to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary and scuba dive with his grandkids.

With surgery and the support of the IOI team, Tom regained his mobility and was able to achieve his goal, going scuba diving with his grandkids just three months later. Today, he’s back on the farm, spending quality time with family, and enjoying life to the fullest.

This week, Indiana Orthopedic Institute proudly participated in the Eastern Orthopaedic Association meeting, bringing our expertise and innovation to the national stage.

Dr. Michael Meneghini, Founder and CEO of IOI, delivered an engaging session on private equity in orthopedics, sparking valuable discussion on the evolving landscape of practice ownership and sustainability. We are also excited to celebrate Dr. Tianyi David Luo, orthopedic surgeon at IOI, who was honored with this year’s Young Investigator Award for research highlighting innovative work on computer-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA), reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing arthroplasty science.

The meeting offered a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and mentors, celebrate achievements, and honor Dr. Koman with the Humanitarian Award—a reminder of why we are driven to improve patient care through research, collaboration, and leadership in orthopedics.
