John Wesley Woods, 71, passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on May 5, 2026, at his home in Nocona, Texas. John was born to Otha Lee and Ruby Dean Allison Woods on July 4, 1954, in El Paso, Texas. John was a hard worker who loved his family very much. He was a man who rarely sat still and truly came alive wherever there was an engine to build, an open road, or the outdoors calling his name. A talented mechanic for much of his life, he could fix just about anything with a motor and took great pride in his work. He spent many years doing what he loved, from working on automobiles to later becoming known as the “Boat Doc,” where he put his skill and passion to work helping others enjoy life on the water. He worked for the City of Nocona for many years, serving in a variety of roles, primarily at the water plant. Outside of work, John had a true need for speed and adventure. He was an accomplished drag racer who set track records on his drag bike, creating memories and stories that would be shared for years to come. When he wasn’t around engines or the racetrack, he could often be found outdoors doing what he loved most—shooting sporting clays with friends, hunting, fishing, and simply enjoying God’s creation. John was a hardworking, loyal, and spirited man whose love for family, friends, and the outdoors defined the life he lived. His legacy will live on in the stories, laughter, and memories he leaves behind. John married Robin O’Neal on April 14, 2007, in Nocona, Texas.
