*Fun Fact: Kevin is teaching a NEW undergraduate Psychology class at Cumberland University called Trauma-Informed Therapy that incorporates multiple aspects of The Murray Method in a workshop-style class!*

First full week of school just wrapped up here in our county, and phew. 😮‍💨 We're doing okay. Even with routines, it can be a lot. Without routine, though? Unsustainable.

Healthy routines are crucial during the school year. They help us create space for rest, fun, and togetherness even when life is busy (*especially* when life is busy).

Research says:
✔️ Sleep matters – Kids need 9–12 hours a night to focus and grow. (Shut off those screens, and if you can, keep them out of bedrooms.)
✔️ Predictability helps – Post schedules somewhere visible. Routines give kids security and lower stress.
✔️ Play is essential – Unstructured play builds creativity, resilience, and social skills. Do your kids have enough time to just… be?

So as the school year ramps up, remember: Nobody can squeeze more time out of the calendar. We've got to make the most of what we have and protect the moments that matter most: rest, connection, and play.

🌱 Small steps can make a big difference.

School is back in session in many areas, including ours. For many kids (and parents), this time of year brings excitement and the feeling of a fresh start, an invitation to revisit family systems and try new things.

This time can also bring jitters, stress, and sometimes full-on meltdowns (from kids AND parents) as schedules shift and expectations pile up. You’re not alone. It’s a tough transition for lots of families.

We’d love to know: How do you make the first weeks of school calmer in your home?

We're beyond grateful that Possibility Place allowed us to walk their staff through a remarkable two-day training using The Murray Method. With tools like Circles of Intimacy and Bricks of Survival, staff members developed clearer visions toward becoming Healthy Balanced People! They also developed more tools to support their pals and caregivers.

➡️ Possibility Place is in Murfreesboro, TN, and empowers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, connected lives through life-skills training, vocational education, and community involvement. As a faith-based organization, they focus on each individual's strengths, fostering confidence, purpose, and inclusion every step of the way.

You’ve booked the beach trip—now book time for your marriage.

Summer has a way of making us slow down and look up. Our routines are a little different. Maybe the kids are home from school.

It's the perfect time to ask each other, “How are we… really?”

If you’re feeling distant, disconnected, or like you’ve become more like roommates than partners, this is your chance.

➡️ Couples counseling doesn’t mean something’s broken. It means you care enough to grow.

Use this summer season to dig into things that really matter.

You make time for the vacation. You plan the BBQs. Why not make time for each other, too?

💬 Start the conversation.

Meet Kevin: An Enneagram 3w2 and a big fan of cooking, Teddy Swims, and teaching himself guitar when he’s not playing soccer or basketball with his boys.

Kevin didn’t always plan to be a counselor, but it was a natural transition from being an educator and working with high schoolers and their families. “We’ve all been in hard places,” he says. “Having someone walk alongside you in that? That’s a gift.”

When he’s not in the counseling room, you can find Kevin watching The Office, Severance, or planning a home project or vacation with his wife Jess. Kevin doesn’t follow sports... but is *very* supportive of your teams. Way to go with the sports balls, guys!

Misconceptions about therapy Kevin is quick to challenge? That therapy should last forever. Every journey is different, but he believes therapy should help you heal, not keep you stuck. “If you’ve been in therapy forever and you’re still in the same spot,” he says, “it might be time for a new therapist.” He also thinks some therapists may rush to label what might just be a normal response to a tough season. “Sometimes, life is hard—and what we need isn’t a diagnosis, but tools to cope and move forward.”

If you asked him to name dream lunch guests, he’d go with Steve Carell, Nick Offerman, Rainn Wilson, and Gordon Ramsay (An inspiring if not slightly unhinged hodge-podge of personalities at one table, but we don't judge).

Kevin is an indispensable member of the Anchor Creek team! We're lucky to have him.

Meet Luis: Enneagram 2w3. ESFJ, travel-obsessed, and fluent in Spanish *and* 1980s music trivia.

Luis didn’t grow up dreaming of being a therapist—but somewhere between a few plot twists and a deepening sense of purpose, he found himself doing exactly what he was made to do.

Outside of sessions, Luis is always planning his next trip, revisiting episodes of favorite shows (currently The Crown), and rotating between true-crime spy thrillers and low-pressure podcasts. His playlists lean heavily on 1970s rock, and yes—he absolutely has opinions about it.

Biggest therapy myth he’d like to bust? That it’s only for people in crisis. "It’s for anyone who wants to stay out of crisis," he says. "In the words of JFK, 'The best time to fix a roof is when the sun is shining.'"

Oh, and dogs. Always dogs. Cat people confuse him. (He says that with love. Sort of.)

He and his wife Lisa love to visit the beach every chance they get! His dream vacation? A 58-ft Meridian Cabin Cruiser, a bunch of good friends, and island-hopping through the Caribbean. In this fantasy, the Dolphins also finally win the Super Bowl. (He knows.... Let him have this.)

We're grateful to have Luis on our team! And if you've ever had a session with him, we hear you are, too.
