Teaching Syllables Through Movement 👏
Watch how this simple pounding technique helps children feel and count syllables! When children physically tap, clap, or pound out each syllable while saying words, they're using multiple senses to understand how words break apart.
Try this at home: Grab some dolls or toys and practice during playtime! Have your child pound the table (or clap, stomp, jump!) for each syllable in the toy's name. "Po-ny-tail" = 3 pounds. "El-e-phant" = 3 claps. "Bear" = 1 stomp.
This multisensory approach helps kids feel the rhythm of language, not just hear it. You can add blocks or magnets to represent each beat—making it visual too!
