HealthMPowers is a nonprofit organization based in Georgia that champions healthy habits and transforms the environments where children live, learn, and play. Through physical activity and nutrition programs in schools, early care and education sites, out-of-school time sites, and community organizations, we address the root causes of many preventable chronic diseases which stem from poor nutritio

n and lack of physical activity. By partnering with families and schools in under-resourced communities, we promote widespread, equitable access to the tools that secure healthy futures for young people. Our programs are tailored to meet the specific needs of each population, with the goal of inspiring positive habits throughout the child’s lifetime. Ultimately, we aspire to build a future where all children are nourished and active.

Hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation!

We’re proud to share a powerful op-ed published in the Houston Home Journal, co-authored by one of our incredible HealthMPowers Youth Advisory Board members alongside our CEO. Together, they shine a light on a critical issue: ensuring Georgia’s kids have access to nutritious meals during the summer through Summer EBT.

As we remain hopeful this vital investment receives the Governor’s support, an even bigger story is unfolding—✨ the power of youth voice. The true GEM of this effort is watching young leaders build skills, engage with complex policy systems, and educate their peers and communities. From school gardens to the State Capitol to the opinion pages, these youth are leading with courage, clarity, and purpose—turning lived experience into real action.

When youth are the architects of their own growth, the impact is transformational. Nourished, active kids are the goal—but empowered youth are the lasting legacy. 💛

What a fun and inspiring day celebrating the incredible work of Student Health Advocates (SHAs) at Stone Mill Elementary! This year, students took the lead on a sustainability project focused on movement and play—adding new physical activity signs along the playground and field fence.

Working alongside another 5th grade class, the SHAs installed the signs and then proudly invited classes from across the school to come outside and try them out. The energy, leadership, and joy were contagious! 🙌🏽🏃🏽‍♀️

After a full morning of hands-on learning, the SHAs spent another 45 minutes digging into an important question: How do we make sure this project lasts? Their ideas around care, ownership, and sustainability were thoughtful and powerful—and they were so proud to show off what they had accomplished.

And to top it all off… 🚚🥫

HMP staffer Heather arrived with a truck full of food pantry donations, and the SHAs jumped right in to help unload and stock items for the school pantry through our ongoing partnership with Hands Ending Hunger INC. and .

Student leadership. Movement and play. Food security. Partnerships.
This is what it looks like when young people lead with purpose. 💚

What happens when young people design a space for other young people to grow, reflect, and build confidence?

We partnered with GUIDE, Inc. this last weekend for their staewide Youth Summit, where 140+ students participated in a Mental Wellness for Youth Leaders session designed by youth, for youth. This interactive workshop explored self‑affirmation, self‑confidence, and the power of building strong support systems.

Shoutout to the HealthMPowers Youth Advisory Board members Malak, Neha, and Emanuel for leading the way. Their vision and facilitation turned this session into a space where youth could be honest, build each other up, and walk out feeling more connected and confident.

From the Confidence Café to developing self-affirmation statement, students “filled their cups” with the qualities that help them move through challenges with confidence and the resilience that supports them as they show up for themselves every day.

Who says physical activity can’t happen in the garden? 🌱

The youth at Cotton Indian ES in Stockbridge proved that theory wrong! They were hard at work building and testing their very own PA garden obstacle course. From assembling stepping stones to testing their strength with tug-of-war and clearing jump-over cones, these students were fully engaged and moving.

It’s amazing to see them bringing their creative ideas to life while staying active! Any others do physical activity or wellness in the school garden? We'd love to hear your ideas!

In February, we took our Youth Advisory Board to the state Capitol. The day was an opportunity for youth leaders to experience another dimension of the work to champion healthy habits - and engage in a very relevant conversation around access to nutritious foods for students across Georgia. Special thanks to the for their partnership and to Kid Hungry for their collaboration and mentorship.

The Georgia Health Initiative highlighted the experience in their recent legislative session recap - you can read more here: https://georgiahealthinitiative.org/explore-advocacy-in-action-under-the-gold-dome/

The Girls Empowering Movement - and our GEMs - are shining in Henry County! Recently, we caught up with a few girls to understand the powerful impact that the GEM initiative has had at EXCEL Academy. They truly arrive one way and leave inspired, confident, and empowered.

Excel Academy is more than a school. It’s a space where students are given the opportunity to redefine who they are beyond what they’ve been through. Girls are seen, heard, and valued—and GEM plays a big role in creating that shift.

✨ Anesia, an outspoken 8th grader had discipline issues at her home school. Yet she consistently reminded herself—and others—that she is a leader, which is exactly why she was chosen as a GEM Ambassador. We saw her at the recent Henry County Youth Leadership Ambassador Summit and she was thriving—back at her home school and shining as a member of Ola Middle School’s step team.

✨ NaRya, a quieter but deeply engaged 8th grader, impressed us with her leadership during GEM’s Create A MOVEment project. When we saw her at Eagle’s Landing project day, she shared how GEM and Excel continue to shape who she is and how she shows up as a leader.

Yes, GEM is about empowering girls to live a healthier life but what makes it so powerful is what these girls carry forward through the experience. When they return to their home schools, they’re not the same—they show up more confident, more self-aware, heathier, and ready to lead.

Youth in Action at the Washington Street Community Center

Seeing these young leaders take ownership of their space is what our mission is all about. From staying active to getting their hands dirty with garden clean-up and prepping for summer composting, these clips show that "sustained engagement" isn't just a phrase—it’s a lifestyle.

This is what happens when youth are empowered to lead. Let’s celebrate this continued success at @!
