Before insulin existed,
Diabetes was a death sentence.
Parents were told to “make their child comfortable.”
People starved themselves just to buy a few more months.
There was no future to dream about, only time running out.
And then Sir Frederick Banting changed everything.
Because one man refused to give up,
because he followed a gut feeling that no one else believed in,
because he stayed awake fighting for an answer,
insulin was discovered.
And millions of us get to wake up today, not cured, not carefree, but alive.
Alive to grow up,
alive to fall in love,
alive to chase dreams,
alive to build families,
alive to keep fighting one more day.
When you live with Diabetes, insulin isn’t something you “take.”
It’s something that keeps you here.
So today, we honor:
• The discovery that saved our lives
• The man who made it possible
• And every person who still fights this battle 24/7 with no breaks, no time off, no cure
Happy World Diabetes Day.
Here’s to awareness, access, advocacy,
and to the hope that one day we won’t need insulin at all.
