The start of 2026 has really been...something. And since let us get really clear on a few things:
- Sea Change Therapy stands against the horrors we are experiencing on a daily basis in our country, especially those currently occurring in Minnesota. (Chelsea is a Minnesota native and even therapists are humans that are figuring out how to navigate what's happening in real time while also supporting their clients through it.)
- Therapy is absolutely a place where you can talk about the impact of global, national, and local politics because all of those systems have a very real effect on your day-to-day mental health.
- It is perfectly acceptable to be afraid, angry, and heartbroken AND ALSO find room for joy in your life right now. Joy is resistance!
- What we won't be do is gaslighting you into thinking that deep breathing or grounding strategies will be the only thing you need to get through these times. You will also be given community resources, anger expression activities, and space/time to say the unhinged things you've been thinking this whole time. Better out than in!
The time for impartial and "blank slate" therapists has passed. If you're not sure where your therapist stands these days you should be asking as it can effect your professional working relationship and, for some, your personal safety and security.
