Join us in congratulating Sam Sachs, a CHKD patient ambassador and junior volunteer, on receiving the Governor's Award for Volunteerism & Community Service!

At only 11 years old, Sam turned his battle with leukemia into a powerful mission to support others. In 2021, he founded Sam’s Warriors and has since raised more than $110,000 to help CHKD patients and their families - providing meaningful assistance to over 100 patient families in our community.

Sam continues to volunteer his time, share his story, and lead service projects that inspire hope in others. We are so proud of Sam's dedication to helping others and are honored to be a part of his journey.

Congratulations, Sam, on this well-deserved recognition! ❤️💙💛

System has reached critical levels! 🤯

Critical pH refers to the pH level at which 🦷 demineralization occurs. When the oral pH drops below the critical level (5.5), enamel loses minerals, becomes weakened, and increases cavity 🦠 risk! This pH level is a key factor in understanding how frequently sugary foods/drinks contribute to cavities! We know that repeated exposures to sugars or acids keeps the pH ⬇️ ⬇️ the critical level, hurting enamel, causing bad breath 🤢, and increasing cavity 🦠 risk!!

Let’s promote good oral pH and fight cavities 💪. Eliminate sugar sweetened drinks! Discontinue repeated, ultra processed carb snacks between meals! Consider an alkaline style diet loaded with veggies, leafy greens, fruits, whole grains, protein, nuts, berries…

…just eat like Tom Brady 😉

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. As this this month comes to a close, it aims to raise awareness about the importance of oral health in children and encourage parents to establish dental hygiene habits as early as one year old. Let’s do our parts, raise awareness, and fight this disease!

Did you know…

1. Dental cavities are the most common chronic illness in kids in the US. condition🦠

2. Dental cavities are a preventable disease 😷

3. Nationally, dental appointments are for the most common reason for missed school in school age children 🤒

Let’s change the culture! Get it done (first check up) in year one! Find a dental home in which your kids can grow and thrive! Drink water! Limit carb snacks between meals! Floss closed tooth contacts! Maintain healthy check ups every six months!

🌊Meet Sasha 🙋🏻‍♀️

Sasha is one of our incredible scheduling and billing coordinators and an OR assistant!

Sasha graduated from University of Maryland Global Campus and pursued dental assisting at Centura College. Originally from New York City🗽 🏙️ , Sasha moved to the Hampton Roads area as a military spouse and devoted mother of 3. Sasha is an equal opportunity music lover including ‘50s, rock and roll, and new age 🎼🎶.

Sasha is a wonderful asset to our Coastal family! When you see her smiling face in our office, ask her about love of Puerto Rico🇵🇷 !

Mackenzie Saindon was destined for circus greatness. She graduated at the top of her clown college class. Her talent walking the tightrope was sublime. She even made her own pies for her lauded pie-in-the-face routine during intermissions. Unfortunately, after crashing the clown car and abandoning 30 clowns at the scene, the circus revoked her license and made her take a hard, long walk down old clown road. Mackenzie forever removed her water-spraying flower lapel, and vowed to search for better horizons.

Mackenzie pursued her love of laugher and healing by enrolling at The Ellmer School of Nursing at Old Dominion University🦁. She has experience as an ED nurse at both Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital . She is the dedicated, full-time nurse at Coastal Pediatric Dental & Anesthesia🌊🦷. Mackenzie maintains her active certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Pediatric Cardiac Life Support. She established a shot-put world record (men’s and women’s) at the 1960 London Olympics. She started a short story about farming which she gave to Steinbeck to inspire The Grapes of Wrath. She is the current, two-time defending national thumb wrestling champion👍.
