In 1981, Dr. Alexa Canady made history as the first African American woman neurosurgeon in the United States. Despite facing prejudice during her training, she rose to become Chief of Neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where she saved countless young lives. A University of Michigan graduate and Yale-trained surgeon, she was later certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and honored in her home state’s Women’s Hall of Fame. Her groundbreaking career continues to inspire future generations in medicine. ❤️

Dawon Matthews, an African American entrepreneur who once struggled to find a job because of his criminal record, now runs a thriving food truck business in Houston, Texas, called Goodies Soul Kitchen that earns over $1M a year.

At 19, he served time for aggravated assault and a DUI. Despite excelling in high school and finishing college with a business degree, he faced constant rejection when applying for jobs.
