November 19, 2014: the day I was scheduled to deliver my twin boys via c-section. However, that’s not exactly what happened… Their birthday was yesterday, I delivered the kiddos a day early due to a medical emergency I was experiencing. Luckily I was already at the hospital due to my 24 hour pre-op appointment, and they were able to see that my blood pressure went from normal to eclampsia levels over the weekend, and I was at risk of a stroke. My medical team was able to get my children delivered and save all of our lives. I was in the hospital for days after delivering, and my sons were in the hospital for weeks. You wouldn’t know all of this happened by just glancing at us, but we are all survivors that have turned into thrivers. I’m moving with relative ease and with joy, and my twins are strong and healthy and just had a party over the weekend. This morning, they were both honored at their schools Honor Roll assembly (and their best friend, too🫶🏾). So I’m glad to move, aches and snappy sounds and all.
I realize my celebration post is being shared at a time where the very real challenges that women, especially black women, face regarding experiencing medical racism. My story does not negate theirs, my children just happen to have been born at this time 11 years ago 🖤🖤 I hope more black women in the United States receive the excellent care I received. I am grateful for all my blessings.
P.S. This is improv movement, not Classical Pilates. There’s a little bit of everything here, and as Auntie Tab says “that’s my business”
