Yesterday, I let someone care for me.

I got a facial.

It sounds simple. Almost indulgent. But it had been a very long time since I allowed that kind of intentional touch.

I walked into a place I had never been before. Strangers. Soft light. Quiet hands. Warm towels resting on my skin.

And at first, I did not know how to receive it.

My body was still braced. My breath was shallow. Even lying down, I felt responsible for something.

But slowly… something shifted.

I noticed how carefully they moved. How present they were. How their hands did not rush. They were not trying to fix me. They were simply tending.

And I realized how rare that has been in my life.

Not the facial.

The tending.

Because what moved me was not the glow on my skin at the end. It was the reminder that care can be intentional. Care can be quiet. Care can be chosen.

It was not a gift from someone else. I gave it to myself.

And that felt like a small coronation.

I have watched so many women reach a certain age and begin to disappear. They shrink their desires. They slow their dreams. They tell themselves this is the quiet ending.

I feel the opposite.

I feel the Universe opening space.

More time. More awareness. More room to release what no longer belongs to me.

That facial reminded me that self care is not just spa days and soft music.

True self care is looking in the mirror every day and seeing yourself.

Not the flaws. Not the years. Not the roles.

But the woman who has survived. The woman who has carried. The woman who is still becoming.

It is choosing to ask, where am I right now?

And answering honestly.

Because when I know where I stand today, I can choose tomorrow with sovereignty.

Not from performance.

From presence.

It is not what you add.

It is when there is nothing left to remove.

And yesterday, under warm towels and quiet hands, I removed one more layer of forgetting.
