October is Filipino American History Month and we’d like to spotlight two incredible nurses at Sentara Leigh Hospital!

Gloria Gozon (left) and Arlene Fronteras (right) are both RN unit coordinators and have a combined 70 years of service with Sentara.

“I always believe life is what you make it. That it always starts from within,” says Arlene. “Forty years after coming to the U.S., my adage is still, ‘You are in a country with so much freedom and chances for prosperity, so work hard and be good at it. ’"

“’Nurse’ is just not a job title, it's a badge of honor that we carry, everywhere we go,” says Gloria. “Being a nurse from the Philippines, we learned the courage to adapt to the multicultural shock in a foreign land. Food can be a great unifier! I love sharing Filipino recipes with my team members and inviting them to fiestas."

Join us for the Sentara Leigh United Way Fall Craft Fair on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front lobby of Sentara Leigh Hospital. Celebrate the season with handmade goods, cozy crafts, and unique finds, perfect for getting a head start on your holiday shopping.

Support local crafters and artisans while making a difference, a portion of proceeds will benefit the United Way of South Hampton Roads.

🏆 We recently celebrated our outstanding team at the Sentara Leigh Hospital Award Ceremony! With 17 award categories and 180 nominations, the event brought together nearly 200 colleagues to recognize the incredible work happening every day at SLH.
