Welcome Leo season!
The Crystal Sunflower's sun sign is in Leo as I specifically chose this time to go on a limb and do the scary thing seven years ago!

Leo embraces a gentle, but confident strength and emboldens us to be courageous.

We are in NC for a Gem Show this week and did scary things yesterday (rock jumping and kayaking on the Tuckaseegee River) and this evening we are doing something we've never done- LIVE SALES! See our post in a bit with more details!

It's amazing how a smell can take us to a place stored long in our memory and trick us to be right back there... with a person or in a place from long ago.

One of our favorite perfumes is made by
Not only are the scents lovely, but the vintage perfume bulb packaging completes the memories of long ago.

On this International Rock Day, I want to share about my favorite Rockhounder, my Grandpa.
I shared his birthday and lived with him for many of my early years, so he was my first father figure. He was quiet, gentle, wise, hard-working, and a creative woodworker. He once built a shed from scratch (still solidly standing today, BTW) and I don't believe he drew anything out on paper. Wild.

He nonchalantly introduced me to my love of rocks and fossils. He would pique my curiosity with arrowheads, fossils, and oddly-shaped and colored stones that he found in the garden or somewhere where he had trekked. He would turn it in his hands, ooh-ing and ahh-ing and speculating what it was. I know he would be proud that his passion for rock hounding inspired MY passion for geology. Several degrees and jobs, a love for caving, and owning a crystal shoppe may not have happened without him.
I miss him every day. Damn ci******es.

Note: my granddaughter LOVES rocks, too. I hope to continue to inspire her to talk to them 🥰

Over the years, I’ve collected OODLES of rocks- most of which have a back story that I can remember!

Here are a few:

Pic2- me on the shoreline of Jasper Beach in Machias, Maine. Yes, I've shipped and toted rocks back home from here. I need a backhoe next time.

Pic3- cool rock I found in the entrance creek to one of my best cave finds in Highland Co, VA

Pic 4- lower rock is from a roadcut in the PahaSapa Fm near the sacred Black Hills, WY. I schlepped this beauty in my field camp backpack all day, then toted it home to VA.
Top rock is from road cut of calcite in cave country Germany Valley, WV. The smell of sulphur was strong when we sledged it free.
