All feelings are valid, but kids need tools to manage them. When kids learn to cope with strong emotions, they gain more control over their choices and behaviors.

When you can’t stop running through the “what ifs” —

What if I had called that day? What if I had insisted they stay? What if I had said something different?

Ronnie Walker, founder of the Alliance of Hope, shares: “We try to create a narrative around what happened, but we can never know for sure the full details of any relationship or why our loved one did what they did. We can never know all that was involved. We can observe that they faced life challenges, or were not treated well, or suffered intolerable pain or mental illness, but in the end, we never really can know all that was involved – all that led to that final act of ending Life.

“Su***de is complex. We do our best to understand and to create a narrative, but it is never one thing. Su***de is the final ‘dance’ of an individual with Life’s circumstances. A given circumstance may lead one person to end his life, but it might inspire another to take other actions. We are complex beings living in a very complex society.”

The “what ifs” are part of processing trauma. You are not to blame.

everyone you meet is carrying something you can’t see…

some people are healing, some are hurting, some are starting over, and others are just trying to make it through the day…

we only ever see a small glimpse of someone’s life

Everyone is going through something…. whether it’s good, bad, or somewhere in between.

That’s why kindness is so important.

The way you speak, the way you treat people, and even the smallest actions can have a bigger impact than you realize.

So be gentle. Be patient. Be understanding. Be kind.

Because you never truly know what someone is going through, and your kindness might be exactly what they needed that day. ❤️

You can support a loved one with mental illness by being a calm, nonjudgmental presence and letting them share how they feel at their own pace. Listening more than you talk, and resisting the urge to immediately “fix” things, often helps them feel safer and less alone. 💛🩵💛
