Hi Friends 👋!

I have taken a very long and much needed hiatus from SM.

I am popping on to let you know about something I’m doing that is very important to me….

Many of us know what it feels like to be anxious, overwhelmed or panicked.

Living in a world that is in constant motion with a never ending stream of news notifications and the pressure to always be doing can further exacerbate these feelings.

But it is possible to find calm and access peace even amidst inner or outer chaos.

I know because I have dedicated my life to this pursuit.

My own struggles with anxiety led me to yoga more than two decades ago and the relief I experienced from the practice fueled a lifelong passion for sharing these tools with others.

That is why I am thrilled to let you know that my Yoga For Anxiety 5-Week Therapy Group begins February 11 at The Relationship Center of Hampton Roads!

I teach physical yoga. But that’s not where it’s at for me.

The physical benefits of yoga are vast and wonderful, but the mental and spiritual aspects are life changing.

If you’re looking for physical exercise, I’m not your gal.

What’s happening on the outside is far less interesting to me than what’s happening on the inside.

Do you agree? How do you benefit most from your practice?

It is yet another tragic and horrible day in our country. These events are collectively traumatizing. We all need resources so that we can process such unimaginable violence.

Here are 3 techniques to help regulate your nervous system:

1. Bilateral stimulation 🧠
Stimulating both sides of the brain redirects intense energy. To get your hemispheres aligned grab any object such as a pen hold it out with your hand and follow it with your eyes side to side.

2. Havening 🤗
The word haven means to put in a safe place. This is an abridged version of a longer technique developed by Steven & Ronald Ruden. Cross your arms over your chest and hold opposite shoulders. Squeeze with your hands starting at the tops of your shoulders moving all the way to your elbows. You benefit from bilateral stimulation + touch = serotonin release.

3. Deep belly breaths 🧘‍♀️
Place your hands on your lower belly. Breathe deeply enough to feel your belly move under your hands. This type of breathing stimulates the vagus nerve and flushes out the stress hormone cortisol.

Want to know a secret? Sometimes I forget about the little girl in this picture. (Yep! That’s me)

When my inner dialogue goes south my inner mean girl comes out and she is not nice.

So I’m trying something new. I’m asking my inner voice to talk to the little girl in the picture. To be kind and compassionate. To speak with love. To make her feel safe so she can make mistakes.

Reframing our self talk helps reduce stress, build confidence, and improve our relationships.

Put a ❤️ in the comments if you’re ready to be more kind to yourself.

Is there anything you are a bit insecure about? For me, it’s that I’m highly sensitive, which makes me seem shy and reserved. I used to think this was a weakness that would only hold me back. Now I know it’s my greatest gift. It’s what makes me a powerful yoga teacher, nurturing friend, and caring partner...what are you insecure about, and how do you overcome it?

Regardless of what it is, know this friend: you are enough!

Hi friends!
My name is Meaghan! I’m a yoga teacher and educator. This felt like a good time for a reintroduction as there have been so many changes in my world lately.

Here’s a bit about me for those of you that are new…

19 years ago at this time I was about to start my first yoga teacher training. I started teaching as soon as I graduated and I haven’t stopped since.

I owned my own yoga studio with my husband in Norfolk, VA for 10 years. Covid completely turned our lives around. We officially closed the studio in March. It was so hard, but it has taught me so much and I can’t wait to share some of those lessons with you.

Now I am focusing on my solo business as a yoga teacher and wellness entrepreneur. It’s asking me to redefine what’s possbile and stretch myself, which I kind of hate and love at the same time.

My passion is helping highly senstive people like myself embrace their strengths and thrive using yoga and daily rituals. More to come on that 😊…

I’m also a full time graduate student at age 41 😱! It’s super hard to be a student again but also super exciting. I am studying to be a clinical mental health counselor. It’s something I’ve always felt called to do and I am finally doing it. It’s never too late right?

I can’t wait to blend my passions for yoga and mental health.

I’ve been through so much TOUGH stuff these past few years, BUT it has helped me get crystal clear on my mission and I am grateful for that.

Thanks for being here!

Nice to meet you! Drop a comment below telling me something about YOU!

Did you wake up with the Monday blahs like me? 😒

Try this Prana Shakti breath work for 1-3 minutes.

You’ll feel better. Promise.

🔹Sit comfortably on the floor or in a chair.

🔹Inhale reach your arms over head and spread your fingers.

🔹Exhale and make fists as you pull your arms down and GENTLY strike your ribs.

Keep going at a moderate pace for 1-3 minutes then reach your arms up and pause with the breath held in. As you’re ready relax your arms down.

Now go get that Monday! 💪

Ya’ll! At 41 I am finishing something I started when I was 25 and going back to grad school.

I am excited and nervous, but mostly I can’t wait to blend my passion for yoga with my desire to help others with their mental health.

Eee!!

Wish me luck.
