Knee Center for Strong Families

The Knee Center for Strong Families sponsors academic and community-oriented programs in the fields of social work, public health and fine arts.

The Knee Center believes that families are the backbone of strong communities. The family unit, in various forms, has been the foundation for communities throughout history. Legislation, program development, and services should reflect this reality. The Center's mission supports the belief that the strength of families determines the strength of the community. The Knee Center for Strong Families was founded in 2009 through a bequest of Ruth Irelan Knee. Ruth Knee was an alumna of the University of Oklahoma School of Social Work and a pioneer in the advancement of social work as a profession. Based on her principles of social action and civic engagement, the Knee Center devotes its work to building theory, knowledge, practice, and education for the development of strong families in their diverse forms.

General information

The Knee Center is housed in the University of Oklahoma School of Social Work. The Knee Center conducts its own research and partners with professors from the school of social work. Currently, the Knee Center is working on the following projects: - A study to investigate the family values of social workers - A qualitative study that examines the perceptions of risk and service needs of HIV/AIDS positive clients and their health care providers - An evaluation of a women's re-entry program from corrections - And more... visit our webpage to view more information about past and current studies!
