The Fourth of July can be challenging for individuals with autism due to sensory sensitivities, but with preparation and accommodations, it can be a positive experience. Loud noises, bright lights, and crowds can be overwhelming, but strategies like using noise-canceling headphones, creating quiet spaces, and preparing in advance can help. My kids first time, I let them watch videos first and warned them that the fireworks will be loud; they don't like surprises. I always focused on my kids saying the colors of the fireworks to help them switch to the "logic" side of their brains, and help them focus on something they can sort of "control;" this really helped them enjoy the fireworks better. If that isn't enough, sometimes we will park far away from the fireworks so we can really only see the ones that go really high up, so that way the sound isn't as loud. Plus being away from the crowds is also helpful. Headphones and sometimes those sunglasses they give you for looking at Christmas lights or at an eclipse can be good because it makes the colors a little more muted and they felt safer with the glasses on. Also, think about going just for the first part of the show, then leaving before the finale happens-super loud, super bright, and you miss a lot of the traffic and crowds while leaving. Happy 4th! Have fun and stay safe!
*This all can also help those with PTSD*

Narcissists can be very tricky to be around. Let me help you understand them better so that you can make informed choices, feel more empowered, and have some support!

**Narcissists constantly lie.** They completely distort the truth to have control of any situation. They lash out at anyone who disagrees with them. Their lies and deceptions are made extremely believable so they can manipulate friends and family members. A narcissist lies so much that they truly believe their own lies!

What makes narcissistic lying so dangerous is that it’s not always obvious. These are not just small fibs or white lies — their deceptions are strategic. Lies become tools for manipulation, used to create confusion, cover up abuse, and destroy the reputations of anyone who threatens their carefully constructed facade. They will lie about you to others, and lie to you about others — all to isolate, control, and maintain dominance.

Over time, being around a narcissist who constantly lies can lead to self-doubt and emotional exhaustion. You start to question your own memory, your version of events, your feelings — all because their gaslighting has trained you to distrust yourself. This is by design. The more uncertain you are, the easier you are to control.

Their lies can be charming, too. Narcissists often appear charismatic and convincing, especially in public. They wear masks — the caring partner, the doting parent, the generous friend — and fool people into believing they are kind and good. But behind closed doors, the truth is often very different.

And yes — they lie so much that they begin to believe their own fabrications. In doing so, they avoid facing their real selves. Because truth exposes them — and that’s the one thing they fear most.

EXCITING NEWS!!!

I recently obtained my certification for being a Certified Narcissistic Abuse Healing Practitioner! If you are in a relationship with anyone who falls into that category, be it a coworker, family member, significant other, friend, etc I can help you understand the game you are in (probably without knowing it), how to figure out what is actually going on, recognize it in the moment, find ways to not take it personally, and learn to transmute the frustrations. I educate you and help support you, because narcissists have a way of making us feel like WE are the crazy ones! So if you need help with a narcissist in your life, I would love to be there to support you so you don’t feel so isolated.

My Story

I have my Bachelor’s degree in Health Science with a Minor in Psychology from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. I also have my Master’s degree in Human Relations with Counseling Emphasis from the University of Oklahoma. I recently obtained my Licensed Professional Counselor licensure (#7250). I have been practicing for two years.

I have personal experience with special needs children, so I know how scary, and sometimes isolating, it can be. I support the whole family as well, because each member plays an important role. I enjoy learning about each individual person and learning each person’s unique story. I have a special passion for working with Autistic children and their families. I use mostly the Person Centered Approach because I love its non-directive, empathic approach leading to empowering and motivating the client.

I see clients of all ages, but those under two years old must be seen with a parent until they reach the age of three years old. A family with a child on the Autism spectrum will be required to receive family therapy as well (at least short term) so that I can help not only support the family, but help educate them on expectations, triggers/sensory challenges, and give helpful disciplining techniques.

I can only accept HeathChoice, United Healthcare, and Soonercare, or private pay at this time, but I am starting the process to become a provider with other insurance companies. I work with Metro Family Therapy in Moore, OK.
