Phyllis Carol Michaud

Phyllis Carol Michaud (Horton), age 70, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family in Norman, Oklahoma on January 22. Born to the late Donald and the late Sarah Horton (Pugh) in Dallas, TX, on March 26, 1955. She was the oldest of five children.

As the daughter of a United Methodist minister, she moved often; from Dallas to Pennsylvania to Kentucky and back to Saegertown and Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Her upbringing helped shaped her strong Christian faith, empathy, and altruism. She attended Mount Union College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1977. She later went on to receive a Master of Education in Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2002. Following her graduate studies, she pursued and obtained her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification, further preparing her for a lifelong commitment to helping others.

In college she met the love of her life, Timothy, on a blind date which began their 51-year devoted partnership, after four years of courtship they entered 47 years of marriage. They lived together in Akron, Ohio before moving to Norman, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life centered around love, family, and service. They had three children, Andrew, Eric, and Sarah. Offering compassion, understanding, and support to individuals and families during life’s most difficult moments.

Helping others was the guiding force of her life. She began her professional career in social work, transitioned into education, serving as a special education teacher and high school guidance counselor at Norman North High School in 1997. Over the decades of her dedicated service to the thousands of students her support and encouragement never waned. The joy she felt when hearing student success stories and college plans, made the long days worth each year. Additionally, she served with Kaleidoscope Grief Support and numerous years of volunteering for Special Olympics of Oklahoma.

In her free time, and after her retirement from Norman North in 2022, she enjoyed crafting, baking, gardening, traveling to 49 states, nearly all the national parks, countless state and local parks, camping and hiking, and creating a warm and welcoming home for family and friends.

Above all, she was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished time spent together, especially playing games and sharing laughter.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Timothy; her three children, Andrew, Eric and wife Theresa Michaud, and Sarah and husband Benjamin Schield; her 11 grandchildren; and her 2 great-grandchildren; numerous siblings and in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and too many to count lifelong friends that she considered family.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Tribute Memorial of Norman.

Her journey with ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, lasted two years and three months following her diagnosis, with the disease progressing rapidly in her final days. ALS is a devastating illness that gradually takes away the most basic human functions, including the ability to speak, eat, swallow, move, and breathe, while the mind and emotions remain fully intact.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her honor to ALS research or a named college scholarship fund for Norman North students, or consider planting a tree in her memory to continue her lifelong commitment to education and service.

ALS Therapy Development Institute research donations may be made at: https://als.net/phyllismichaud

The Phyllis Michaud Legacy Scholarship Fund be made at: https://occf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=16213

She will be remembered for her compassion, strength, and the profound impact she made as a wife, mother, counselor, educator, and friend. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she loved so deeply.

Fareed Magallie “Fred” Farha

Fareed Magallie "Fred" Farha was born in Drumright, Oklahoma, on June 20th, 1928 to Smye and Magallie "Dick" Farha. He was the firstborn of what would become a blessed Lebanese family of three sons and two daughters.

After relocating twice in Oklahoma, the family ultimately settled in Childress, Texas, where they owned and operated a successful retail store in the heart of downtown. Because of his parents' humble and generous spirit, Fred learned a love for hard work, serving others, and loyalty to family.

Upon high school graduation, Fred moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to attend the University of Oklahoma, then after two years transferred to Texas Tech where he completed a Bachelor of Business degree in 1950. Fred applied his education and family tradition to successfully own and operate a series of stylish retail clothing stores in west and central Texas. That led him to Vernon, Texas, where his first daughter Janet was born, in 1953.

Fred moved to Elk City, Oklahoma, in 1958 to open a new ladies' ready-to-wear store where a few years later, much to his delight, his parents would join him. There, in 1959, as an added blessing, his second daughter Leslie was born.

Later Fred left retail business ownership behind to begin a highly successful career representing various clothing manufacturers, skillfully building their business from coast to coast. During this time, he made his home in Dallas, Miami, and New York City. After the passing of his father and the relocation of his mother to Oklahoma City, Fred settled there to be close to family and create many happy memories for himself and others for many years.

Fred ultimately moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to be closer to his daughter Leslie and her family. He found great peace in their company and their influence in his renewed commitment to understanding and following his faith. He spent many hours in contemplation and prayer, often in his daily meditation alone in silence on the bench on the bank of the neighborhood lake. His deeper understanding and relationship with God led him to a peaceful humility and thankfulness for the One who made the heavens and the earth and who will judge the living and the dead, the One who "remembers our sins no more" and who made him His own beloved child by His love and grace.

Known for his near photographic memory, Fred could mesmerize and entertain family and friends with his 97 years of memories of people, events, places he’d been, and things he’d read and learned. We will miss hearing the knowledge he possessed.

Though Fred always made friends easily wherever he lived or traveled, his lifelong best friend was his next younger brother, Emile, whom he trusted and sought out like no other. Throughout life, they spoke daily and shared friends, experiences, and each other’s love. Their bond was absolute.

For the last two years of his life, Fred enjoyed making new friends and acquaintances at Rivermont Independent Living in Norman.

To add to a blessed life, beginning in April 2025, Fred, Leslie, and the entire family enjoyed a happy reunion with Fred's first daughter Janet.

Fred was preceded in death by his father Magallie "Dick" Farha, his mother Smye Simon Farha, and his brother, Jameil "Jim" Farha. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Emile Farha and his wife Sandra of Oklahoma City, sister Barbara Saied of Wichita, sister Celia Hein and her husband Bill of Oklahoma City, daughter Janet Gordon and her husband John of Dallas, daughter Leslie Smith and her husband Jim of Purcell, Oklahoma, four beloved grandchildren, and twelve cherished great-grandchildren.

Mary Lou Grinstead

A funeral service will be held on January 18, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service. Following the service, Mary Lou will be flown to Oklahoma for burial at Seaman 1st Class Billy Turner Veterans Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on January 22, 2026 at 11:00am.

Mary Lou was an avid lover of life. Whether she was spending countless hours tending and beautifying her flowerbeds, shopping until she dropped, watching Hallmark Christmas movies in the middle of July, or driving long distances just to be near her grandchildren—whom she adored—she always found joy in the simple things. Anyone who knew her knew her to be sweet, kind, and someone with an exceptionally big heart.

She had a gentle sense of humor and never minded when a joke went over her head and everyone laughed along. She would often say, “You sure are going to miss me when I’m gone,” never realizing just how right she was. Her warmth, devotion, and boundless love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
