OCTOBER IS 💗BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH💗
Today we wore pink to celebrate our very own survivor, Mindy!! She recently shared her story on Facebook and it is a great reminder for us all! Please remind your moms, grandmas, sisters, daughters, aunts, and friends!!
(Mindy’s story)
365 days ago I went for my yearly screening mammogram. That led to more imaging, biopsies and ultimately the words “you have breast cancer.” Although I had felt something, it really didn’t feel like a lump. It was a ridge that was several centimeters long. (8-9 cm to be exact according to imaging). But because it didn’t feel like a lump, I just decided it was dense tissue. I had my mammogram coming up so I just waited the couple months until my scheduled mammogram. After many scans and lymph node biopsy it was confirmed my cancer was contained to my breast tissue. (I am blessed!!). After a double mastectomy I am cancer free and didn’t have to do any further treatment!! But I promise, it’s scary and it’s emotional in any form, no matter the type of cancer!! Ladies (and MEN!) do your self-exams, have a breast exam with your GYN, and get those mammograms!! I know we all have someone, whether it family or friends, who have been touched by cancer! I am so very thankful for my husband, kids, family, friends and church family that supported me during this journey!!
