Loneliness is often thought of as emotional. The science says it is physical, too.

Prolonged isolation in older adults is linked to higher rates of dementia progression, heart disease, stroke, weakened immunity, and anxiety.

The brain needs engagement. A companion caregiver can bring back daily conversation, shared meals, walks, and extra support at home.

If your parent is spending more time alone, now is the time to act. Reach out to learn how we help seniors stay connected at home.

Caring for someone with a physical disability or brain injury means thinking about both safety and independence.

Residential Habilitation supports your loved one in a home style apartment where everyday tasks are practiced with guidance and consistency.

It is a setting designed for growth, not just supervision. This is covered under the OBRA Waiver.

April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day and is a great reminder that advance care planning is not only for hospitals or attorneys.

It belongs in your home, with your family, and in the everyday decisions that shape how your loved one wants to live.

For many families, that means choosing to age in place with the help of home health aides or companionship care. These are healthcare decisions, too.

For Svitlana Karpachova, our employee of the month, “the most special feeling is knowing someone needs you and looks forward to your visit.”

She says seniors have a way of sharing wisdom that you cannot find in books. Through their stories and experiences, she has learned lessons that stay with her long after the day is over.

Outside of her caregiving role, she enjoys swimming, traveling, attending music concerts and conferences, teaching children a second language, and spending time with family and friends. She also sings in the choir at her church.

How do you know if your aging parent is lonely? Being alone is not the same as being independent. Changes in your parent’s behavior, mood, appetite, hygiene, or social participation can signal growing isolation at home.

Luckily, consistent companionship can make all the difference. A caregiver is able to assist with meals and light household tasks, encourage outings, and share genuine conversation.

Driving may still represent freedom to your aging parent. For you, it may be starting to feel like a safety concern.

If you are seeing new dents on the car, recent tickets, missed turns, or nervousness in traffic, it may be time to talk with your elderly loved one about stepping away from driving.

However this does not mean they have be housebound. A home health aide can help with grocery trips, doctor appointments, errands, and outings, so your parent stays active and connected without the risks of driving.

What difference does 20 hours of covered care make? For a veteran parent, it could mean a caregiver who helps them bathe safely, prepares meals they enjoy, and keeps medication on track. For you, it means less worry about them being safe at home. The Aid and Attendance benefit can make this possible.
