Certified Instructor Ericka I've been an instructor with the American Red Cross for 15 years or so.

Different certifications include; CPR/first Aid/AED ~ Lay Responders & Professional Rescuers, Pediatric First Aid, BLS, Babysitting Course, and Lifeguard Course.

June's Lifeguard Certification Class at the GWCCC. 27.5 hours of certification required, hands on experience with instructor, video watching for scenarios while offeringa visual learning, water safety and scanning, as well as passing the Written Exam.

Water safety is important and required by DHS for child care facilities, camps, other programs where the Department of State oversees and requires at least 1 certified lifeguard on duty who is also a staff member at the employer you are workimg for. ❤️💙🙏🏊🏼‍♀️

These skills are also timed. During the Scanning process, you have no more than 2 minutes to rescue the victim, administer CPR, and begin AED if needed. If you are unable to succeed, the victim could either become brain dead or unalive due to no oxygen to the brain. 🙏🙏

Certifications range from $350.00.- $375.00 which includes 2 years of CPR/First Aid/AED and Lifeguard certification and renewals are about $200.00, which your current certification cannot be expored for more than 30 days.

I am grateful, excited, blessed, and appreciative of this amazing opportunity that the NASD (Norristown Area School District) has given me. I was able to host a few trainings to their staff members as part of their Professional Development Training, over the past few PD days. I taught CPR/First Aid/AED (pediatrics, child, and adult), as well as lifeguarding. Staff members at different educational levels (elementary, middle, and high school). ❤️💙👏🙏🏊🏿‍♂️🏊

It was nice to meet staff I haven't met before, staff who are currently my children's teachers, and staff who were my children's teachers, in the past.

Teaching an Autistic/Neurodiverse 9 year old how to swim 🏊🏿‍♂️. Getting him to understand the connection between kicking, stroking, while learning how to breathe in water and out of water. Many kids on the spectrum learn by modeling things to them as well as hands on experience. Many also have a low attention span and may only be able to do a maximum of 10 minutes per day of learning how to swim. We know they love water. Just getting them accustom to it so they can have a routine. Thanks to Barb, WSI instructor who is teaching Tyler. Lessons are available for everyone up until August 7, 2024. ❤️💙🙏😊🏊🏿‍♂️🧩🧩🧩🧩🧩🧩🧩

Some scenarios and trainings during the 3 day lifeguard Certification process. Fun, exciting, great learning experience for participants and the instructor. They also did well on the Written Exam which shows I actually did an okay job for it being my first class. 🏊❤️🙏

Yes we will be hosting another class possibly in July and also offer other classes... CPR/First Aid/AED, BLS, etc.

Lifeguard Certification Class hosted at the George Washington Carver Community Center. Last day of our 3 day class, which was a great learning experience for future Lifeguards, but also me. It was my first official 3 day course and it was great! 🏊❤️🙏

This scenario includes back/head injury in 5 feet water. 4 Lifeguards present, 3 responded real quick by getting into the water and splinting the head with the use of arms, to keep still. The other Lifeguard grabbed the backboard so that it would be ready for when the victim was brought to the side of pool with head immobilizer.

Remember.... you have 30 seconds to reach the victim and have to remove victim from water, do 4 sets of breaths and ventilation (CPR), and then AED within a 2 minute time period.

Go Lifeguards!

Oh and also..... I was the victim. 🤣🏊❤️🙏
