Been told your gums are receding because you brush too hard? That's not the whole story. 🦷

This is something I find myself saying more and more in practice. Yes, technique matters. But so often, gum recession is really a bite problem in disguise.

When the mechanics of how your teeth come together are off, that stress has to go somewhere. And a lot of the time, it goes right to the gumline.

So when I see recession, my first thought now isn't "brush gentler." It's, what is the bite doing? What are the muscles doing?

That's exactly what my conversation with Karese Laguerre opened up for me, and honestly, even I walked away with new things to think about.

Addressing the muscles alongside the bite may be the difference between watching things get worse and actually turning it around, before it becomes gum surgery or a cracked tooth. 🌿

You haven't missed the window. I promise. 🌱

In my conversation with Karese Laguerre, RDH and myofunctional therapist, she said something that I think a lot of people needed to hear.

Yes, it's easier when kids are younger. A five-year-old adapts faster than a fifteen-year-old, who adapts faster than a thirty-year-old. That's just how the body works.

But at every age, change is still possible. And Karese sees it happen every single day.

Earlier is easier. But later is still worth it. πŸ’›

If you've been sitting on this and wondering whether you or your child missed the moment, this episode is for you.

Three medications. A year and a half. And nobody ever asked about his sleep. πŸ˜”

That was Karese Laguerre's reality with her son, right up until the moment she finally pushed back on a fourth prescription and asked for a sleep evaluation instead.

The neurologist's response? "Had you mentioned sleep, I would have told you, there's a 70% overlap between sleep deprivation in children and ADHD."

Nobody asked. Nobody told her.

This is why I do what I do. Because the root cause conversation changes everything, and it shouldn't take a parent drawing the line to start it.

This came out of my daughter's sink. 😳

I was using a drain cleaner called Clean Suds, and y'all, that dark clump you see? That's mold. Hidden in the drain, just sitting there, quietly living in her bathroom.

This is one of those things we don't think about until we actually look, and then we can't unsee it.

Here's why it matters. Mold doesn't just stay in one place. It releases spores into the air you breathe, especially in small enclosed spaces like bathrooms. And for kids, for anyone with a sensitive immune system or struggling with unexplained symptoms, that hidden mold load can be a real piece of the puzzle.

So how do you find hidden mold? Sometimes you start with the drain. 🚿

Grab a cleaner, and just see what comes up. Your body, and your home, may be telling you more than you realize.

What if the ADHD diagnosis wasn't the whole story? 🌿

I sat down with Karese Laguerre, RDH and myofunctional therapist, founder of The Myo Spot, and what she shared genuinely stopped me.

Four kids. Bedwetting. Chronic ear infections. Grinding teeth. Restless nights.

That was her own home. And even as a dental hygienist, she didn't see what was connecting it all, until she found the airway.

Here's what hit me hardest: there's a 70% overlap between sleep deprivation symptoms in kids and ADHD symptoms.

70%.

That's not a footnote. That's a conversation worth having before trying another medication.

In this episode, Karese and I unpack what myofunctional therapy actually is, why so few people know about it until something goes wrong, and what you can start noticing in your own child, or yourself, right now.

Mouth breathing, teeth grinding, chronic ear infections. Those aren't just "normal kid stuff." Your body is trying to tell you something.

Karese sees patients in-person in New Jersey and Florida, and works virtually with families worldwide 🌐 so no matter where you are, this work is within reach.

Planning to have your amalgams removed? What you do in the weeks before and after can make a real difference in how well your body clears what's released. 🌿

Even with the safest protocol, a certified biological dentist, rubber dam, oxygen, and a binder like CellCore on the day of, your detox pathways still need to be open and ready to do their job. That means starting with lymph drainage, gentle collarbone tapping, rebounding, daily movement. Then supporting the liver with liposomal glutathione or NAC, and flooding the body with antioxidants like vitamin C leading up to the appointment.

A drainage kit from a company like Pekana, supporting the kidneys, liver, and bowel, is something I love to use before and after. And TUDCA, a bile salt, can be a quiet but powerful ally for moving those toxins all the way out. πŸ’›

Your body knows how to heal. We just want to make sure every door is open when it needs to walk through. Save this and share it with someone preparing for their amalgam removal.

Most people never think about their saliva. And honestly, that makes sense because it's always just... there.

But here's the thing. Your saliva is working for you constantly. πŸ’§

It's neutralizing acids after every meal. It's helping control bacteria. It's supporting remineralization throughout the day.

When your mouth is dry, all of that protection drops. And that's when decay, inflammation, and gum issues can start to take hold more easily.
So the question becomes, what's drying your mouth out?

Dehydration is a big one. Mouth breathing is another, especially at night. Stress. Certain medications. Even just not chewing your food thoroughly.
Your saliva needs a supportive environment to do its job well.

Simple things matter here. Stay hydrated throughout the day, and sip slowly, your cells absorb it better that way. Eat mineral-rich whole foods. Chew your food. Bring some awareness to how you're breathing.

A well-supported mouth isn't just clean. It's protected from the inside out. 🌿

If this resonates, share it with someone who's been dealing with dry mouth or sensitivity. They may not realize how much this one piece of the puzzle matters.

Struggling to sleep with your CPAP? You're not alone, and you're not out of options. 🌿

Sleep apnea is so much more than just anatomy. I used to think it was all about airway size, until I started seeing patients with huge airways and apnea, and tiny airways with none. That's when I knew we had to ask deeper questions.

Breathing physiology is where I always start. Most of us breathe too fast, too shallow, and too compressed from hunching over our screens all day. When we learn to actually use the diaphragm the way it was designed, so much shifts, including how we breathe at night. And for those with structural contributors, there are gentle options like
NightLase laser therapy that can tighten and lift airway tissue using nothing but light. πŸ’›

There are real alternatives worth exploring before you resign yourself to a machine you can't tolerate. Drop a comment or send me a message if you want to learn more.

You see your dentist a few times a year. But your mouth lives with you every single day. 🏑

That daily rhythm you build, or don't build, is what's actually controlling your inflammation long-term.

Brushing. Flossing. Drinking enough water. Eating in a way that supports your whole system. These aren't "extra." They're the foundation.
Your dental visits matter. But what you do at home in between? That's where the real shift happens.

Simple. Sustainable. Consistent. That's the goal.

You don't need perfect. You just need to show up for yourself, a little bit, every day. πŸ’›

Before you say yes to removing your child's tonsils, please read this. 🌿

Your tonsils are not just tissue taking up space. They are the first line of immune defense, literally training your body to recognize and respond to everything in the environment around you. And in so many cases, chronically swollen tonsils are actually a sign of an airway problem, not a reason to head straight to surgery.

Mouth breathing, improper swallowing, underdeveloped jaws, these are often the real root. And when we address those things, we see tonsils shrink on their own. Red light therapy and ozone are also two of my favorite gentle tools for reducing that chronic inflammation while we dig deeper. πŸ’›

If your child has been told they need a tonsillectomy, I'd encourage you to get a second opinion from a biological or airway-focused dentist first. This is one surgery that may be completely avoidable. Share this with a parent who needs to hear it.

You don't have to just say yes to routine dental x-rays every single year. 🦷

Here's what most people don't know: digital x-rays today actually emit less radiation than normal sunlight. And newer guidelines are finally shifting toward personalized care, meaning how often you need x-rays should depend on your actual dental history, not a one-size-fits-all schedule.

In my practice, if you haven't had any decay or dental issues, we may go two years or more between x-rays. We look at you as a whole person. And yes, for patients who do need imaging, we also offer homeopathic support afterward to help the body clear any residual exposure. πŸ’›

Your mouth, your health, your choice. Next time you're asked for routine x-rays, it's completely okay to ask why. Share this with someone who didn't know they could advocate for themselves at the dentist.

Bleeding gums. Sensitivity. Subtle changes on an x-ray. These aren't small things to push aside. They're your body communicating. πŸ™

I always say: catching something early is simpler, gentler, and far less invasive than waiting until there's pain.

And yet, so many people wait. Because it doesn't "hurt yet." Because they're busy. Because it feels like a small thing.

Your body is patient. But it's also always sending signals.

Stay consistent with your checkups. Ask questions when something feels off. Explore early rather than later.

Prevention isn't just about cleanings. It's about paying attention. πŸ‘€
