Meet Sabbir, a 6-year-old boy from rural Bangladesh.

For years, he struggled to see the blackboard at school and join in play with his classmates — but he didn’t realize he had an eye problem.

Thanks to a teacher trained through the SPECS Project, Sabbir received a full eye exam and his first pair of glasses. The change was life-changing: he can now learn, play, and thrive like every other child.

✨ With the right support, children like Sabbir don’t have to fall behind because of poor vision.

Meet Finan!

Finan is in her second year at the Asmara College of Health Sciences, studying optometry to bring clearer vision to thousands in her community.

Through a five-year initiative, the program is training optometric technicians and optometrists, building vision centers, and serving over 48,000 people.

👓 Having once struggled with her own vision, Finan knows firsthand how life-changing access to glasses can be:

“If people had access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses, they would be able to live normally again.”

💚 Her passion is clear:
“Doing work like this makes me feel that I am changing people’s lives for the better, so it is extremely fulfilling.”

🌟 With her dedication, Finan is ready to bring light and hope to those living with preventable vision loss:
“I will be the happiest person in the world when I graduate. I cannot wait to begin my career in optometry.”

👉 Together, we can empower more future leaders like Finan through the World Sight Day Challenge 2025.

Did you know? 80% of what a child learns is vision-based.

From reading the board to recognizing words and exploring the world around them, clear vision is essential for learning and growth. Without proper eye care, children may struggle in school — not because they can’t learn, but because they can’t see.

This World Sight Day, let’s work together to ensure that every child has the opportunity to see clearly and reach their full potential. 🌍💚

🌍 Meet Samuel from Malawi

Samuel Chagwadira had a dream: to become an optometrist and bring vision care to his community.

In 2012, he became one of Malawi’s first-ever optometrists, graduating from the newly established Malawi School of Optometry at Mzuzu University—supported by Optometry Giving Sight.

✨ Despite limited resources in the early days, Samuel pushed forward. Today, he’s not only serving his community but also pursuing higher education with hopes of earning his PhD and expanding eye care across Africa.

“This program is a beautiful thing,” Samuel says. “To be part of the first group of graduate optometrists in Malawi feels great. It is history in the making; we’ve written history!”

💚 Samuel’s story shows how supporting education in eye care creates lasting change—for individuals, communities, and entire nations.

Meet Habib from Bangladesh!

At just 13 years old, his world began to blur. Growing up in a poor village, his family worried they couldn’t afford help for his vision.

Thanks to the Symbiosis Primary Eye Care Project (SPECS) and the support of Optometry Giving Sight, Habib received the care he desperately needed. Doctors discovered a cataract in his right eye, arranged subsidized surgery, and provided glasses to restore his sight.

💡 Today, Habib can see clearly again. He’s back to helping his family, earning an income, and living with hope for the future.

Stories like Habib’s remind us why access to eye care matters. Together, we can fight avoidable blindness and change lives through the Challenge.
