-& more! What is acupuncture? Acupuncture is an effective natural healing method that defines the building blocks of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its roots can be traced back over 3,000 years. Acupuncture promotes healing within the body by restoring balance through the entire system. This ancient healing methodology is based on the philosophy that when in harmony, the body is healthy, the mind is calm and the life path of the individual is clear. Trauma, injury, and pathogenic factors can upset this harmony within the body, resulting in obstructions that manifest as pain, illness, and mental restlessness. What will my acupuncturist do? An acupuncturist works with the body to restore balance through pathways known as "meridians." Meridians flow through the body similar to waterways in nature. An acupuncturist is trained to recognize where blockages of Qi or "chi" exist in the body through a series of questions and observations. Once an assessment of the imbalance is made, the practitioner will devise an individualized treatment plan. Once treatment begins, tiny, sterile needles are inserted to stimulate points on the surface of the body. Generally patients find themselves in a deep state of relaxation once the treatment begins.
