Applying dehydrated amniotic membranes can be frustrating at times, and there are two methods that can be utilized. One would be to place the membrane directly onto the cornea, and the other is to place the membrane inside the bandage contact lens first, which can often be the easier option.

This video demonstrates how forceps can be used to smooth the Apollo amniotic membrane into a contact lens for easy placement. A 32-year-old pregnant patient went to her Optometrist with a painful right eye associated with blurred vision, photophobia, red eye, and profuse tearing that began after a possible scratch to the eye. Upon examination, it was discovered that the patient had suffered a very deep corneal abrasion.
