The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides scientists in the lab the funding they need to make game-changing discoveries in cancer treatments, detection, prevention and ultimately, a cure. NFCR has distinguished itself in the cancer research sector by emphasizing long-term, transformative research often overlooked by other major funding s

ources. With the help of more than 5.3 million individual donors over the last 50 years, NFCR has provided $410 million in funding to public education and cancer research leading to some of the important, life-saving discoveries that benefit patients today.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ New episode coming soon โ€” and this one is special.
Dr. Tony Hunter is one of the most influential cancer researchers alive. His discovery โ€” made almost by accident โ€” eventually led to over 80 cancer drugs being approved for patients worldwide. Drugs like Gleevec, which proved the skeptics wrong and changed what we thought was possible.
In his conversation with Dr. Sujuan Ba on All Things Cancer, Dr. Hunter talks about that discovery, where cancer research is headed, the promise and limits of AI, and why he thinks the biggest breakthroughs are still ahead of us.
Stay tuned โ€” this is one you won't want to miss.

April is Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month โ€” and as the month draws to a close, the need for continued research and support remains urgent.

Here's what the data tells us:
๐Ÿ“Š In 2026, an estimated 22,530 Americans will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer โ€” and approximately 16,290 will die from it.
๐Ÿ“Š It is the 11th leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
๐Ÿ“Š When caught at a localized stage, the 5-year survival rate is 48.6% โ€” but only 19% of cases are diagnosed that early.

Awareness matters. Research matters. Funding matters.

Before April ends, make your gift count. Every dollar you donate to NFCR fuels the scientists working to improve early detection, develop better treatments, and ultimately find a cure.

A simple blood test that tells doctors which cancer treatment is right for YOU โ€” that's not science fiction. That's what NFCR-supported researchers are working toward right now for small cell lung cancer patients. ๐Ÿ’™

By measuring a protein called DLL3, scientists may soon be able to predict who will respond to a new immunotherapy โ€” giving patients a real fighting chance.

This is how we stop the surge of cancer: smarter research, personalized treatments, and the support of people like you.

Cancer is supposed to be a disease of older generations. So why are young adults being diagnosed at rising rates?
At NFCR, we believe no one should have to face a cancer diagnosis without hope โ€” and that hope comes from research. Our scientists are working every day to understand why young adult cancers are climbing and how to stop them.

But research takes funding. And funding takes people like you.

Make a difference today. Every dollar you give goes directly toward the game-changing discoveries that could save a young life. ๐Ÿ’™

Breakthroughs donโ€™t happen in isolation; they happen through bold ideas, collaboration, and sustained support.

At the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting 2026, NFCR-supported scientists shared how they are advancing discoveries across all cancer typesโ€”from AI-driven insights to next-generation therapies.

These arenโ€™t just scientific milestones. They represent real progress toward earlier detection, more personalized treatments, and better patient outcomes.

For over 50 years, NFCR has funded high-risk, high-impact research that others wonโ€™tโ€”because thatโ€™s where breakthroughs begin.

Behind every breakthrough, thereโ€™s a community.

At NFCR, our staff is fewer than 20 people, but our reach is made possible by dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and heart to our mission to make cures possible for ALL types of cancer.

From event support to remote contributions, you help turn small teams into big impact.

Thank you for making cures possible.

April is Cancer Control Month โ€” and we need your help.
Every April, we honor the millions of Americans battling cancer and the survivors who inspire us every day. But Cancer Control Month isn't just about awareness โ€” it's about action.

Here's something that might surprise you: up to 50% of all cancer cases are preventable. And yet, nearly 1.8 million Americans are diagnosed every year. That number doesn't have to keep growing.

This month, NFCR is committed to:
โœ… Funding research for better, more effective treatments
โœ… Advancing early detection so cancer is caught when it's most treatable
โœ… Supporting patients and families at every stage of their journey

The history behind this month goes all the way back to 1943, when President Roosevelt declared the first Cancer Control Month โ€” recognizing cancer as a deadly enemy that too many Americans were ignoring. Over 80 years later, the fight continues.

Want to learn more about what Cancer Control Month means and how you can get involved? Read our full blog post here ๐Ÿ‘‡

Today is World Health Day, a moment to reflect on what it means to truly protect health, for everyone, at every age.

For children and young adults facing cancer, that protection is still out of sight. Nearly 15,000 kids and teens are diagnosed with cancer every year in the United States, and it remains the leading cause of disease-related death among children. Meanwhile, incidence rates have been climbing for decades, rising from roughly 14 cases per 100,000 children in the late 1970s to nearly 19 per 100,000 by 2010-2019.

This April, NFCR is raising the alarm. The surge in pediatric and young adult cancer is real, and it demands real research funding.

Pediatric and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week starts today -- but one week isn't enough. Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children and teens ages 0-19, and colorectal cancer has become the leading cancer killer in adults under 50. The surge is too serious to address in seven days. This April, NFCR is going all month. Stand with us and support the research that changes these numbers.
