The New Jersey Self Advocacy Program works toward accomplishing its objectives in a variety of ways, such as educating the State administration and legislators regarding issues of importance to people with disabilities, conducting presentations to community groups and conference audiences, planning and implementing leadership seminars, establishing and supporting self-advocacy groups and helping t

hem conduct various activities, working on cooperative projects such as fundraising for community service organizations. The New Jersey Self-Advocacy Program is committed to assisting individuals with intellectual and related developmental disabilities to become involved in self-advocacy as a means of supporting positive change on both a personal and social level.

At-home nursing and personal care assistant services are not reimbursed through Medicaid at a rate that home care agencies can reliably sustain. This means employee recruitment and retention fall behind, and the quality and continuity of patient care suffers.

When home care is underfunded...
-PDN (Private Duty Nursing) shortages delay hospital discharges 60–90+ days
-Children miss school without needed medical support
-Families lose income, sleep, and stability
-Patients are pushed into institutions—unnecessarily
