As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, we are proud to honor the Black mental health pioneers whose leadership, research, and advocacy transformed the field of psychology and counseling.
Their work continues to shape the way we practice today. From trauma-informed care and cultural humility to therapist self-reflection, ethical and inclusive assessment, and deeper awareness of systemic stressors impacting communities. They championed community-based, strengths-focused approaches long before they were recognized as best practice.
What was once considered “specialty” care is now foundational to ethical, effective clinical work thanks to their vision, courage, and commitment to equity in mental health. ❤
